Description
BU0830BKS: 830 Marksman
Buck Knives

Grant and Gavin Hawk have a new lock system, the SLS (Strong Lock System, catchy huh?), and they have matched it up with this great Buck design. This US made knife also features 154CM steel and a ball bearing system for quick and quiet opening. The Marksman is a serious tactical offering from Buck.

When Buck designed the Marksman, the features included definitely deliver one of the strongest locking blades available for tactical operatives. Utilizing the locking mechanism developed by Grant and Gavin Hawk, the SLS (Strong Lock System) is one of the strongest locking mechanisms on the market. The SLS, once deployed offers the strength of a fixed blade knife. An innovative ball bearing pivot system allows for quick and easy opening by simply sliding one finger along the lock strap. Fully opening the blade securely engages the SLS. With a hefty blade of 154CM steel and a solid aluminum handle, the Marksman is designed for heavy tactical operations.

Awesome knife
This has been my sole EDC now for about 6 months. I really enjoy working the knife and it looks good doing it too. It opens/closes smooth as silk.

Cons: None
Excellent knife for EDC/ emergency tactical
This knife is excellent- It is my EDC Slim in pocket, solid & light 4oz, 3.5 inch 154CM blade with BOS heat treat- very good edge retention, Zero blade play, Very sharp hollow grind, One handed opening with flipper or blade cutout Super strong lock system, Lock is adjustable for normal wear and tear to maintain solid lockup Deep carry pocket clip - I feel only Buck and SOG know how to do this right, Premium Ball bearing pivot system is very smooth, Excellent ergonomics, Aluminum milled for additional grip, Good safety choil on blade and lock strap provides additional thumb support for fine work. Can be used for emergency tactical because of the safety choil, handle design and solid lock up. I have to admit there is a learning curve on this knife to learn how to use the lock, one handed opening, avoid getting pinched by the flipper when you close. But once you get it down, it is totally worth it. I love this blade and would replace it right away, if lost. I could not find what kind of aluminum is used on this knife anywhere but it seems very sturdy. One thing to learn right is how to close it safely. The videos with the Buck reps at the shot shot don't open it the right way, so a lot of people are learning it wrong. Here are some tips and links to close it the right way:- Two handed Closing: hold the pivot, and the blade with one hand when raising the lock strap. This way you can close it and lower the blade safely. The ball bearings are so smooth it drops really quick. One handed Closing with index finger is fastest and best, see following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLzHVlsQn30 Closing one handed with thumb: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YNVGdBVZEk

Pros: Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Lock Type, Blade Material, None
Cons: Lock Ease of Use
Received this knife for my birthday in July 2014. Been part of my rotation since and has been a joy to carry. Used on a house reno, couple of hunts, fishing, camping, and some outdoor food prep. Has worked flawlessly. Good ergos and easy to open. Like having option of flipper and opening hole in blade. Has kept an edge but is also easy to maintain. Lock is strong but a challenge to close with one hand. Great price for a US made CM 154 blade knife. Does everything I've asked flawlessly. Highly recommended. Buck doesn't always get the love but they nailed it with this one. Great design by the Hawks, too.
