Description
CR1032: Nathan's Knife Kit
Columbia River

A working softwood model of a lockback folding pocket knife.

This model kit of a folding knife was the idea of a seven-year-old Nathan Klecker, son of design engineer and award winning knife and tool designer Glenn Klecker. It makes a fun and educational craft project for a parent, grandparent or mentor and children seven years of age and older.

This kit includes all parts needed, precision cut and shaped from softwood, hardwood, and bamboo. When assembled, the model operates exactly like a lockback folding knife, teaching the principles of levers, springs, and locks.

Lockback
Lockback
The original locking mechanism. It can be found mid spine or at the bottom of the handle, and it provides tight lockup that will wear well.
Wood Handles
Wood Handles
Provides a traditional, natural look and feel to a modern tool. Wood absorbs shock well and is popular in axe handles.

Pros:
Cons:
Good teaching tool
I got these for my kids for Christmas on sale (about $5). They are a nifty little teaching tool for kids to learn how a spine-lock knife works. The cuts were very precise and the blades "lock up" remarkably well. Four starts because the post-Christmas price is double, and the kit isn't worth that much.

Pros: Blade Material, Overall Quality, Ease of Opening, Sheath, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
Really Neat
What's great about it is the teaching how of all the parts of a knife go together without the hassle of carving them all out. I used to carve out my knives (one or two piece) to play Indian with, Had a good "Bowie" knife.
