DescriptionKS1596: 1596 Spec BumpKershaw Knives
According to custom knife maker Ken Onion, the Bump-which also features the Speed-Safe assisted-opening mechanism-is designed for multi-tasking, minimal mass, and maximum performance. "I wanted to make the Bump as multi-tasked as possible," says Onion. "The blade design is unique, but at the same time, it's very practical and fluent at a large number of jobs."
In a tougher cutting situation-for example, cutting a half-inch branch-the bumped blade shape provides maximum leverage and cutting ease. For piercing, the blade's point is precisely centered so that the energy is distributed evenly down the handle to offer greater power with less effort.
The handle fits the hand precisely and is constructed of G10 laminate for strength. The 1596's handle has a textured surface and provides comfort and an extra-secure grip.
Thanks to Kershaw's Speed-Safe assisted-opening system, the Bump offers maximum flexibility in opening technology as well. The proprietary Speed-Safe technology enables the knife user to open the knife with one hand-left-handed or right-handed. The user gives a short push on the thumb stud and the blade moves into position smoothly and easily. It then locks into place for safe, secure use. Alternately, the user can open the blade with the Index Finger Opening System. By pulling back on the Index Opening knob with the index finger, the Speed-Safe system is engaged and the blade moves into place. When the knife is fully open, the Index Opening knob becomes a finger guard to protect the user's hand.
