An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for it's extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Best machete that I have ever owned!!
I love this machete. Every since I got mine about 2 years ago, I don't go into the woods or a survival expedition without it!, Once sharpened, It is very sharp, holds and edge, Has very little slag in the steel, making it extremely flexible without being brittle. This machete is capable of felling trees 20 inches thick in my experience, and eve better than my double sided axe on top of that! Handle is a bit crude, and is very hard, but its fastened on there well, hasn't busted on me yet, and I have a feeling that this knife will last me a lifetime! 10 out of 10!

Excellent for chopping brush
We have been using these machetes on our deer lease and camping trips for the last 8 years. It is an excellent tool at a great price. Easy to sharpen and maintain with a file. It is a good all round tool. For bigger folks, the 22" version is better at chopping, but the 18" is better for small/medium folks. The hand guard is nice too. It helps some people maintain their grip on the machete and it helps protect the hand from brush etc. We own 10 OTK machetes, 22", 18" and 12" and we often give them as gifts to good friends.

Big and heavy
I regret getting this long of a machete. Its too much, too heavy. Came as dull as a spoon handle too. I see no reason to ever use this over my 14" ones. I'm sure it will take a good beating though.
