Description
SP101GP2: Manix 2 S30V
Spyderco

A recipe for folding knife success: Start with hard-use rated lock. Add a blade made of exotic high carbon steel. Manufacture it in Golden, Colorado using precise tolerances then add a healthy dash of American innovation. These ingredients are the Manix2, a concoction of solo features when combined make one of the strongest knives from Spyderco to date. Patented by Spyderco, the Manix2 has a Ball Bearing Lock. It’s a hardened free-floating ball bearing contained in a custom hi-tech polymer cage. The round ball bearing allows the lock to self adjust across a large surface, smoothly and consistently locking-up with solid confidence. Evolving over time, the Ball Bearing Lock’s strength withstands hard work with a secure, versatile and comfortable grip. Ergonomics are peerless in this design. The blade is S30V and flat-ground with aggressive thumb serrations (jimping) above a super sized 14mm Spyderco Round Hole. The Jimping doesn’t stop there. With full steel liners the scales have jimping that extends beyond the G-10 handle scales scalloping areas of the handle’s perimeter. This one is not slipping out of your hand and works well with gloves on! The liners pull double purpose by adding rigidly and lightweight strength to the handle. A three-screw clip is left/right-hand carry, positioned for comfort and deep pocket carry. The knife also has a large lanyard pipe to protect various types of cords or thongs.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Pocket Clip, Handle Feel, Handle Material, Blade Material, Weight, Ease of Opening, Overall Quality
Cons: None
A great work mate.
Importing knives this far away is an expensive business. A disappointing knife can therefore be doubly painful. Rural life is demanding on gear, weak products don't last. The Manix 2 is not disappointing and initial tough testing promises a long life for it - although I do have a reservation about how durable the ball bearing locking system will turn out to be. More technical reviewers can talk you through the jargon; what I want is simple - strongly built, sharp, holds an edge, comfortable in the hand especially during hard use. There are folk who don't like a heavier knife, but for me a work knife needs weight. If I want light I carry a Delica. The Manix will do me just fine.

Almost perfect
Everything was perfect except for the blade centering. Not enough to affect anything besides my slight OCD for knives. I tried adjusting the pivot screws, even tried to adjust the handle scale tension like you would for most frame locks but still didn't work. Think I need to take this thing apart to fix it. Do not have the ability to do that, and not really too big a problem to send it back. Just going to live with this one.
