SKU "VTAC" LaGana Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk
Peter LaGana's Vietnam Tomahawk was one of the cutlery industry's most significant contributions to the equipment arsenal of servicemen in the Vietnam War, as it incorporated tremendous utility, unparalleled close quarter battle (CQB) functionality, and true American legacy in a single offering. Thousands of Vietnam Tomahawks worked the jungles of Southeast Asia from 1967 through the war's end, saving lives and serving their owners with silent faithfulness in combat.
While tens of thousands of reproductions from a host of manufacturers have been made over the past 30 years, not one has given proper tribute to its original design or, more importantly, proper reward to its original designer, Peter LaGana.

Press Release
U.S. Army issues 21st Century American Frontiersman axe as part of standard issue breaching equipment for combat forces. It is now part of the Modular Entry Tool Kit
Washington STATE, July 23, 2003: Beginning in August 2003, the United States Army will begin providing its infantry squads' with breaching kits featuring an ATC Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk™. The ATC-VTT is an exceptionally versatile hand-axe used for non-explosive breaching operations, egress, excavation, extraction, obstacle removal, and a multitude of standard and specialized infantry / armor combat related tasks.
The American Tomahawk Company, LLC of Washington State (ATC), a specialty manufacturer of modern hand axes, has commercially sold thousands of its Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk hand-axes to U.S. Armed Services Personnel for almost three years. The ongoing Global War on Terrorism in theatres like Afghanistan and Iraq quickly became the company's real world proving ground for its product's practical capabilities in the hands of US ground forces, including Special Forces and special operations personnel. "The American Tomahawk Company enjoys a rich history with the efforts and accomplishments of our Armed Forces dating back to the Vietnam War," says American Tomahawk Company President, Andy Prisco. "We are extremely proud of our product's preferred status with America's finest warriors& warriors who are carrying our tomahawks from Baghdad to Kabul in the knowledge that no better utility tool exists on the planet."
The acceptance by the Army of the American-made Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk™. is part of a new program known as the Rapid Fielding Initiative (RFI). The program is meant to equip soldiers with modern, innovative equipment they want and need to do their jobs. According to Andy Prisco, many US soldiers have been purchasing his company s tomahawks commercially using their own limited funds, but now the Army will provide the tomahawk as part of its standard "Breach Kit".

I actually felt let down when I handled this Tomahawk for the first time. The handle seems very cheap. It is actually slightly warped. I am picky about anything that I buy, especially when it costs $130.00. The handle is probably very tough and will obviously resist the elements. It has OK grip but feels a little slippery. This Hawk is primarily a breaching tool so they should have given it a grippier handle. Smooth handles are good for throwing tomahawks, not breachers. I immediately added a lanyard to mine. The spike is impressive and it will penetrate 1.5 inches into green wood if you put all your might behind a swing! The blade... not so much! Barely a quarter of an inch. Do remember that this is a breaching hawk. The edge is made to resist chipping and rolling. Im sure you could chip away at cinder blocks, sheet metal, plexiglass and drywall all day and not see any change in the edge. As a weapon this Tomahawk will easily get the job done! If your primary use is going to be chopping wood, get yourself a dedicated hatchet. You could buy three or four for the price of this one. I reangled the edge on my tomahawk to improve is wood cutting capabilities. Overall I still love it. It comes with a very nice sheath.
