Pros: Handle Feel, Blade Sharpness, Weight, Pocket Clip, None
Cons: Lock Type, Lock Ease of Use, Ease of Opening, Blade Material
Benchmade 53, from a NON-expert
I've been carrying this knife for almost a month. I'm not loaded so spending over 100 bucks on a work knife is kind of a big deal to me. I have kept this knife immaculately clean (which I never do) there is already rust spotting on the blade. I work from a ladder often; with no spring latch, this thing is a PITA to open with one hand. I pray no one has seen me 20 ft off the ground, shaking my knife til it decides to comply!I've read other reviews claiming that it's uncomfortable but I find it quite comfortable and have had no problems with the latch or the "bump". To those that think the bump serves no purpose, it tells me (when I'm trying to do two or three things at once ) that if I move my forefinger any further, I will cut off my fingertip.... Useful! I'm not even going to say " in my opinion"... The handles are TOO SHORT. In my opinion: add an inch to the handle length, put a spring latch on it ( how hard is that?!) and some steel that can go a few months without rusting and the 53 would be worth the price I payed... Maybe even a little more. I LIKE balisong knives. I need a work knife; I expected this to be a more useful "novelty" balisong. Any one want to trade a morpho for a 53?!
