Rock Creek Knives

Rock Creek Utility knife with a Drop Point Style Blade

Forged from a high-alloy steel (HWS-1) proprietary to Hanwei, with an edge hardness of 58-60HRc and excellent corrosion resistance, edge-holding and ease of sharpening. The blade thickness is 3/16”, and the blade is flat ground. An aggressive thumb grip is provided on the back of the blade for blade control. The Tang is very substantial, terminating in a short thread at the pommel. The stacked-leather handle employs bark-tanned leather and is secured by a sleeve nut at the pommel. The guard and pommel are investment cast in stainless steel.

Sheath is made in bark-tanned leather with stainless steel reinforcing at the wear points and is pouch-type.

Made by Hanwei.

Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.

Pros: Sheath/Scabbard, Overall Quality, Finish
Cons: Handle Material, None
more than you think
In some ways you can judge the quality of a knife by the sheath, and this is a very fancy sheath-- good leather, good stitching, and stainless steel trim at wear points. The knife looks good too, and is a very handy size for hiking in the woods. I usually carry a belt hatchet, so this is all the knife I need. The only down side so far is that the handle is kind of slippery. I put some bicycle inner tube on the upper part that doesn't go into the sheath, which seems to solve that. All in all I am quite happy so far.

Pros: Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness, Handle Material, Weight, Overall Quality
Cons: None
Quality knife.
I purchased this, after some wide-ranging research, for use as an all-day, all-around working knife, and it has exceeded expectations. I keep it with me for all the odd tasks that come up in general carpentry and rigging, and it comes easily to hand, and fits snugly and securely in its excellent sheath. It's very solidly built, and looks like it's standing up to the abuse well, and keeping a good edge.
