Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to Kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.

My go-to long blade in the woods!
I've been using this fellow for several years now and it easily handles everything from grasses to hardwoods with equal aplomb. The 420HC stainless blade isn't what you're used to seeing a stainless machete, and will actually both take a great edge AND hold up to heavy impact! When ordering a Condor one can't expect the same level of fit and finish that one finds in a piece produced in North America, but it's a working man's tool so it's little to be concerned over. You just may need to spend a few minutes finishing the wood of the handle to giving a few light strokes of a stone to bring that lovely convex edge up to "stupid sharp" levels. If anything does go wrong with yours (mine came with a sheath with somewhat dry leather that wrinkled when flexed) then just give Rick Jones at Condor a ring/email and he'll jump right on it. He had a replacement sheath shipped out to me the day after I wrote him. Now that's customer service!
