CR2605: A.B.C. Operator's Model
Columbia River

Jim Hammond is an active outdoorsman as well as a custom knifemaker and Knifemakers' Guild member. When his diving and whitewater friends pointed out the need for a better multipurpose fixed blade, he developed his custom A.B.C. (All Bases Covered) knife/sheath system. The CRKT production versions are faithful to Jim's designs and priced to put them within reach of everyone who depends on a knife for work, survival and rescue.

The dual-grind Tanto A.B.C. Operator's Model is an ideal general purpose fixed blade for special forces operators, as well as hikers, climbers, pilots, parachutists, and military personnel.

The bottom hollow ground Razor-Sharp edge is suited to fine cutting tasks. The top Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge is ideal for rapid rough cutting through cord, nets, and other entanglements.

The blade is a full-tang skeletonized design of premium AUS 8 stainless steel. For maximum corrosion resistance, the steel is first mirror polished to close the pores, and then black titanium nitride coated. The finger choils are heavily friction grooved for sure grip.

The black injection-molded Zytel® scales have an aggressive texture, and they are held in place with corrosion-resistant stainless steel Torx® fasteners.

The Zytel sheath with dual attachment panels and black stainless spring steel clip allows eight carry modes and countless variations. Black finish brass Chicago screws allow adjustment of the knife compression fit into the sheath. Equally important, they are used for a multitude of attachment orientations: on webbing, with leg straps, on PFDs, or with a neck cord.

Strong. Simple. Versatile. Extremely corrosion resistant. All bases covered.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Handle Material, Weight, Overall Quality
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard, None
Great knife for working outdoors and easy to sharpen
I bought this knife for use when landscaping and it has turned out to be exactly what I needed. It came sharp out of the box and I like the unique design that has the serrations on the upper portion of the blade and keeps the bottom plain. This feature makes it very easy to sharpen the plain side of the blade, as you don't need to worry about the serrations getting in the way. Full-tang blade adds strength and it fits well in the hand of an average person. The only downside is the construction of the sheath, which already has cracks around some of the screws after only two months of use. I got this blade on sale, so I really don't have any complaints and the sheath is what brought this down to a 4-star product for my review.

Pros: Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Blade Material, Materials, Weight, Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Finish, None
Good choice for the water people.
Bought the blunt tip model and tried it out as a security knife for diving and general "by the coast"-activities, and found it to be a very handy emergency knife, paired with a more "bushcraft" style blade for the "ground under feet" parts. Cuts rope reasonably good, lighter prying etc no problem. Sheath butt ugly, but on the bright side, it's all function and it works good. No rust issues so far, but no real salt water here either (Eastern Sweden). Only issue so far is that in one of the boxes, a pair of yellow handle scales were missing, and one of the handle screws had mangled threads from the factory, beside that they were in good shape. Bought a pair for my sister and her husband for christmas, since they're into kayaking, long distance skating, snorkeling, waterskiing and such. Tried to explain why I found it to be a good choice as a security tool for their favorite activities. They looked at me like "Aaand we never needed a BIG DANGEROUS KNIFE before, you paranoid childish thing you!". I'd steal them back given half a chance ;-)
