CS27TLCTH: CTS-XHP Recon 1 Tanto 50/50 Edge
Cold Steel
Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and the Recon 1 tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades on this special run model are made from CTS-XHP stainless steel with a black DLC coating. Carpenter powdered steels like XHP offer an elevated amount of carbon that appreciably improves edge retention and strength. The handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip. Plus, they are held together by the latest in high strength mechanical fasteners and further anchored by a 6061 heat-treated spacer. To compliment their super tough blades and handles they are equipped with the revolutionary Tri Ad lock, which practically precludes lock failure. To make the Recon 1 as easy to open and carry as possible, each knife is equipped with a thumb disc and small extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties please take note. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

Thin, light, sharp and incredibly tough, the Recon 1 is willing and able to aid you on your next mission!

Our son loved it.
This was a Christmas gift to our son, an officer in the Marines. He had it on his list and was so excited to get it. He said it was everything he expected it to be. I don't know how to explain in detail what he liked about it but do know that he researched the knife prior to putting it on his list and was pleased with the actual product.

Pros: Blade Material, Handle Feel, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Daily User Knife. WICKED SHARP !!!! It's a big knife. If your looking to pull this from your pocket and open it with one hand - you need big hands. The clip is good and strong but it needs some bending and manipulating to be able to slide over the edge of your pocket. Cold Steel could should look at the clip on a Buck Redpoint. Great handle and feel. It's a relatively heavy knife but I personally like that. Excellent knife. Love buying from Knife center.

Very sharp, excellent steel, solidly built
This knife is very good, good craftmanship overall, handle feels solid in the hand, weight is good, although not really a light knife, but for a robust user its good. The XHP Steel seems very nice. Knife is razor sharp out of the box, takes hairs off with the slightest touch. STeel also keeps sharpness good, no need of resharpening until now. Just did some stroping after cutting here and there and it even felt little sharper than before ^^ What I personally don´t like is A. the american Tanto shape (but that is not the knifes fault) B. the "chisel" ground bevel of the knife. It makes it very sharp on one hand, but also it is very easy to chip such a blade on harder materials. For a heavy use knife I would prefer an even grind on both sides, to give the edge more stability. DLC coating is absolutely awesome, you simply can´t scratch that stuff under normal usage. All in all, if you like the Tanto shape and can live with or even appreciate the "delicate" grind-type found in many Cold Steel knives, this knife is a good buy.
