Description
CS29TMC: Voyager Med. Clip Point Plain Edge
Cold Steel

Our Voyagers® are, ounce for ounce, far stronger than 99.9% of our competitor's folders. And this is a fact, not an idle boast. Each knife features precision made parts with a stiff spring and our incomparable Tri-Ad® lock mechanism which is arguably the strongest, most reliable, low maintenance lock in the world!

The thick, extra wide blades are made from Japanese AUS 8A steel and meticulously ground to a thin edge for maximum shearing potential. This thin edge also allows us to hone each blade to astounding sharpness. And, because of the high carbon content of the steel, and their near perfect heat treatment, you'll find this sharpness last a surprisingly long time.

If you like serrations, you'll really appreciate our exclusive pattern. It features groups of very small, sharply pointed teeth separated by wide, shallow arcs so it will rip smoothly yet very aggressively through a wide variety of tough fibrous materials without snagging or hanging up.

The Voyager® Series also offers all the other latest refinements in lock-back construction including lightning quick, one-handed opening, state of the art mechanical fasteners, massively oversized pivot pins that are fully adjustable and properly hardened, and dual stainless steel pocket clips for ambidextrous carry and deployment.

The Grivory handles feature 6061 heat treated aluminum liners for the utmost in strength and stiffness and are ergonomically designed to afford a wide array of grip options including the palm reinforced forward grip for which they are particularly well suited.

Grivory is unparalleled as a handle material as it is considerably stronger than Zytel® and, when deeply textured, offers a terrific non-slip grip. As an added bonus, it's impervious to moisture and won't crack, warp or shrink and remains remarkably resistant to abrasion or discoloration.

As tools these lightweight, super sharp knives are appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, chute knife or police/military and survival/rescue applications.

Nice little knife
I ordered this from KC months ago. It was out of stock and I forgot about it. Nice surprise when it came. I have an older 4" Voyager that I've carried for years, but it's too long to carry in RI when I visit relatives, so I got The 3" for such trips. Nice little knife. Upgrades over the older model are: 1) steel liners, 2) Torx instead of rivets (for most of it) 3) a better lock that's only slightly more difficult to open, and much more difficult to close (which is a plus - you can't disengage the lock accidentally), 4) a flat grind from spine to edge, which makes it easy to sheer through thicker material. CONS: 1) the handle does not quite fit an adult hand, 2) pocket clip is too tight (like all CS knives) and requires prying it up a little with a flat-bladed screw driver to give is more clearance and not abrade pants pockets so badly. If legal to carry it, and you can live with a bigger knife, the 4" will fit the hand better. The 3" is a nice little knife for the price, though.

Some good changes, some not so good.
I carried a VG-1 2008 Voyager for 3 years and loved it. It was just the right combo of awesome steel, great handle, and reliability I was looking for. Things I didn't like were the pocket clip ... and the pocket clip. So the 2010 Voyagers show off neat looking handles and OMG San-Mai III. Great until the sticker shock set in. Fast Forward 12 months and 1 bad early batch and we have the 2011 Voyagers. The handle carried over from the SMIII prototype which in my opinion is good. I have medium size hands and I can fit 3 fingers in the grip perfectly and my little finger rests on the end but it doesn't feel pinched or out of place. AUS-8 A is one of those hit or miss steels with me. They got it right here. The stonewash finish is very classy and while no where near as sharp out of the box as my VG-1 Voyager was, it could definitely pop hairs. I will agree with the earlier commenter, the lock is VERY tight at first. I almost gave up on this knife as my thumbs were starting to hurt from repeated attempts to close it. I'm happy to report that a week later of medium use and repeated open / closings, it is much better now. It closes and opens with satisfying ease. The major detractor to this knife and the primary reason for the low score, is the pocket clip. It is the same clip as the older model. Although it seems even tighter if that is possible. The aggressive pattern in the grivory makes the entire package about twice as unforgiving on your pants as the older model. I had to remove the pocket clip (and buy a torx driver to do it with) sand the grivory way down and smooth it out. I also had to grind off the bottom edge of the clip and give it a friendlier bend. I also had to do this with my old Voyager so I am disappointed that they did not update this thought pattern. Bottom line, I am not disappointed in this knife. For the price I am actually impressed with the build quality of the handle, the sharpness and cut of the blade, and the strength of the tri-ad lock. However, I am rating it 3 stars because of the ridiculousness of the pocket clip combined with the initial very difficult and callous forming (almost serious) break in period for the unlocking spring. I am however EXTREMELY likely to purchase this in a larger size, and Tanto point.
