Description
CS29TXC: Voyager X Lg. Clip Point Plain Edge
Cold Steel

Our Voyagers® are, ounce for ounce, far stronger than 99.9% of our competitor's folders. And this is a fact, not an idle boast. Each knife features precision made parts with a stiff spring and our incomparable Tri-Ad® lock mechanism which is arguably the strongest, most reliable, low maintenance lock in the world!

The thick, extra wide blades are made from Japanese AUS 8A steel and meticulously ground to a thin edge for maximum shearing potential. This thin edge also allows us to hone each blade to astounding sharpness. And, because of the high carbon content of the steel, and their near perfect heat treatment, you'll find this sharpness last a surprisingly long time.

If you like serrations, you'll really appreciate our exclusive pattern. It features groups of very small, sharply pointed teeth separated by wide, shallow arcs so it will rip smoothly yet very aggressively through a wide variety of tough fibrous materials without snagging or hanging up.

The Voyager® Series also offers all the other latest refinements in lock-back construction including lightning quick, one-handed opening, state of the art mechanical fasteners, massively oversized pivot pins that are fully adjustable and properly hardened, and dual stainless steel pocket clips for ambidextrous carry and deployment.

The Grivory handles feature 6061 heat treated aluminum liners for the utmost in strength and stiffness and are ergonomically designed to afford a wide array of grip options including the palm reinforced forward grip for which they are particularly well suited.

Grivory is unparalleled as a handle material as it is considerably stronger than Zytel® and, when deeply textured, offers a terrific non-slip grip. As an added bonus, it's impervious to moisture and won't crack, warp or shrink and remains remarkably resistant to abrasion or discoloration.

As tools these lightweight, super sharp knives are appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, chute knife or police/military and survival/rescue applications.

A First Actual Cold Steel Knife Sampling
I was first attracted to this knife when a coworker had shown me his original xl voyager, then this newer generation he bought. I was impressed by the aggressive finger choils & textured handle. The stonewashed finish gave the steel a look of an old carbon steel blade with a patina. So i bought my own from Knife Center with the CS Spartan. The knife was hair popping sharp out the box & was impressive enough. In so far i have used it for my general cutting purposes, carving out my self bows because that flat V grind just excels. I even did some abusive testing of the lock strength a little before PREPAREDMIND101 did his testing batoning through midsized processed logs. Passed with flying colors. This knife has been my EDC for awhile, considering some reviews I've seen & read of CS folders being to bulky & weighty. My gripe with this knife is that I'm constantly resharpening this aus-8a steel. It can be honed easily enough but the edge retention is lacking even with the added carbides in the steel. Next is the thumbstuds that only work as thumbstuds, I've since modified an Emerson wave feature with a zip-tie I've seen on Bladeforums. I wish that some extra pocket clip screws were included like with the Spartan so you can attach on the extra pocket clip for optional L or R pocket carry.

WOW
This is not your Moms knife. She would be very pissed at your for carrying this. :) That being said, this knife not only matches, but exceeds my expectations. It is razor sharp. The lock snaps home with a promise of stability and competence. The weight to size ratio is amazing (good). I have always liked Cold Steel knives and this is one of their best, esp. at the price. I have the older model Voyager and was a bit upset when the redesigned it. Now that I have the new model in my hand I have to admit they made the right choice. Retention is better and you have different grip options from the older style. The stone wash finish is beautiful and the knife looks deadly. It's looks alone should warn an attacker off, but if it doesn't, the knife can back up its intimidation factor. I recommend this knife without hesitation. I will update this review if anything unexpected happens, but for now, stop reading this review and start ordering the knife! You will not be disappointed.
