CS95BUSK: Bushman®, Secure-Ex Sheath w/ Fire Steel
Cold Steel®

For the money, the Bushman® knives might be the strongest survival/outdoor knives in the world! Unlike most hollow handled survival knives, there is no joint or seam between the blades and handles that requires a mechanical fastener. Instead, the Bushman’s® blades and integral handles are each expertly cold forged out of a single piece of 2.5mm thick SK-5 high carbon steel. The resulting knives are expertly heat-treated and tempered to RC54 and, when subjected to our tests, have withstood over two tons of pressure on their blade/handle transition!

Every Bushman® blade has been carefully ground to an extra thin edge, and then honed and buffed by hand until razor sharp. The Bushman® knives are versatile too! Their hollow handles will accept survival supplies or a variety of handle extensions which can maximize reach, leverage or ease of throwing. They are available in two blade styles (standard and the Bowie point). Both feature continuously curved blades that are ideal for skinning, and will pierce, cut, slash, slice and shear like you won’t believe.

They come complete with the new heavy duty plastic Secure-Ex sheath which features an attached ferrocerium fire steel.

Impressed
When I opened the box, I realized that it was a little bigger than I had originally thought, but, all in all, exactly what I had expected. Weight and balance felt pretty close to perfect. Blade was pretty sharp already, I just made a few swipes with a stone and put a more finished edge on. Grip was as slick as I thought, so I wrapped skateboard tape around it. Feels great now. Took it hunting with me and a couple buddies and used it to help field dress a doe. Like I said earlier, it's a little big, but it performed perfectly. It something happens to it, I'm not out a lot of money and can easily replace it, so it stays in my vehicle now. The sheath was a pleasant surprise. It's minimal yet very functional, and holds the knife REALLY well. Had to learn to pull the knife handle in the opposite direction of the belt clip side, and then pull the knife out. I'm making it sound more complicated than it really is, but that's the smoothest way to draw the knife out, without pulling the sheath with it. If it even adds a 1/10 of a second to a draw, I'd be surprised. I have not tested the firesteel, yet. Overall, I really like this knife, and apparently, so did 4 of my friends and 1 of my uncles, who all went out and purchased one for themselves.

Can't Get Any Simpler
I'll just be using the blade as a general purpose bush knife, and it looks sturdy enough, although I haven't really gotten out to use it for that it yet. The plastic sheath is serviceable and holds the knife securely, but it's a different story trying to remove it in the cold (-10C) since the knife snaps in to lock in place. It's a real two handed job to unsheath it and probably not one that would work out very well when it's on your belt. The blade comes well sharpened. but I'll clean it up on my 1 inch belt sander and strop anyway. The fire steel would be OK in a pinch, but is too small to use normally. Overall, quite pleased with it so far.

Great knife
The Cold Steel Bushman is a great knife, it comes very sharp with a solid construction and nice functional sheath, I love it. The only downside is that the handle may get slippery when wet, however that can be fixed with a simple wrap, and with the price you cant complain. KnifeCenter.com has some of the best prices Ive seen, however I was not overly impressed with the packaging, but again thats just a minor complaint.
