CS97MKM: 97MKM Magnum Kukri Machete
Cold Steel

If you were suddenly castaway on a desert island or stranded in the wilderness or a jungle, what's the one tool you would want at your side? The answer is a good machete. You see the machete, over the last three centuries, has proven to be the ultimate outdoor and survival tool. It will cut, chop, slash, hack, split, scrape, scoop, hammer, dig, crush, carve, whittle, crack or smash just about anything you can put in front of it. The machete also makes a deadly improvised weapon. It can be used to kill both fish and game and will gut, scale, filet, skin, quarter, and butcher them for the table as well. And when you look at its meager cost, it's got to be one of the best bargains for hard earned cash in the world. In fact it's so cheap and useful that even the poorest peasant in South America or tribesman in Africa invariably owns one and counts on it as one of his most precious possessions.

These blades are made out of 1055 Carbon Steel with a tough spring temper and are surfaced with a black, baked-on anti-rust finish. Each Cold SteelĀ® machete comes with a good utility edge which, with just a little work, can be made hair shaving sharp. The tough, Polypropylene handles of our machetes are designed to provide a comfortable secure grip, and they are rugged enough to resist chipping, cracking or breaking, so they last practically forever.

There's no single edged weapon that we can think of that can out-chop or out-cut a good Kukri. It's true that the best Kukris, like our LTC and Gurkha models, can be somewhat expensive. While those "thoroughbreds" perform extraordinarily well for the money that they cost, it sometimes seems that what's required is a good, inexpensive, "workhorse" model. Our Kukri Machetes are those workhorses. They are available in two sizes, one has a thirteen inch blade and the other, our new "Magnum" model has a whopping seventeen inch blade. Both are ready to plow through the toughest chores life can dish out. Each features the distinctive weight-forward balance of our "top-of-the-line" models, and always present their edge on an angle so they're guaranteed to "bite" deep with every stroke. Additionally, they come complete with a sturdy Cordura sheath! They're a solid value, ready for long, hard work.

The blade is a christmas gift for enthuesiast. She's going to love it, from the weight/balance, the size (which was bigger than expected, but not bad!), to the already sharpness. I'll be looking again on cyber monday

Kukri machete
I have a Cold Steel Kukri about 16-17 years and it is one of my favorite tools. I've ordered the Kukri Machete because the good experience with my ''old'' Kukri but when l got it l was kinda' disappointed. The finish does not look professional at all, looks like someone made it in a hurry. The black coating is coming off and practically haven't used it, chopped off few tin branches. The edge looks unfinished, very rough and not symmetrical. The handle is the same mold like my old one but missing the brass grommet, l know that's only cosmetic but it's makes the handle look cheap unfinished. Judging by the appearance l would rate it low but l hope it will turn out a very useful tool and for a machete that's what counts. Alex

Great Machete, means business!
Heavy, esp. for a senior with a bad wrist, but a very good machete with not a lot of flex despite its length. After using tennis grip tape, i could control this thing like a tennis racket. Came with utility edge, but after 20 minute or so with a wet stone, I had a very dangerous sharp edge on it. It has a very dangerous stabbing point to it, making it seem like a sword. It means business, and can tear bodies, bushes or boards all to pieces. I don't live in or go to a wooded area, and got this for urban house defense. No reason that it could not excel at this. I can't see anyone standing around arguing with you with this in your hand. In fact, just recently another senior down the road in my neighborhood drove off a gang of home invaders with this machete. That one was rusted beyond belief, but did the job. I paid $17.78 and definitely got my money's worth. You will too.
