EMHORSEBTS: Horseman - Black Combo Edge
Emerson Knives

We all know how important a knife is when you’re working around a farm and livestock. In regard to horses, a strong sharp knife is not an option, it is essential. Every cowboy knows that his knife is his lifejacket. When something goes wrong with livestock, it goes wrong fast. A knife is generally the only thing that will get you out of a wreck with your life.

So, Emerson did their research and found that the knife design most suited to the purpose was a scaled down version of the CQC-8. This Mini-CQC-8 still has all of the aggressiveness of the Full Size 8 but is more pocket friendly for someone on Horseback.

Pros: Handle Material, Handle Feel, Pocket Clip
Cons: Lock Type, None
Love the design but have had some lock failure issues
Love this design, the full size cqc8 even more but the only Emerson I might still ever use for real is the fixed blade I have. Out of 3 Emerson folders I have owned and used 2 ended up with failing locks so if I still use them it's at home and I use them as a non locking knife. It's a real shame because I think Emerson makes some great designs, beautiful knives that feel good in the hand but having owned over a 100 folders (and actually having used quite a few) these are the only folders that ever had their locks fail on me..

Solid Utility folder with Self Defense potential.
You either like Emerson knives, or you don't. Emerson puts classic materials & machining to classic use. It'll be up to you if the price is right or not. As I got into my 30's, I started appreciating smaller every-day knives. No longer bound by some imaginary need for a giant "combat" folding knife. Emerson's "mini" knives like this, sit not only at a lower price-point (most of the time), but also ride lighter in the pocket. The simple, good old Wave feature is always quick & cool, but you can easily bypass that opening method by curling your index finger around the closed knife as it exits your pocket, & then use the thumb-disc. I own tons of high-end factory knives & some customs, but Emerson pieces always find their way back into my pocket. If you can understand that the "legend" & hype of Ernest's designs is actually somewhat justified, and based on many years of positive customer feedback, it's easier to swallow the fact that you're buying a fairly pricey knife that uses time-tested 1990's-Era factory technology. American manufacture is very nice too in 2013. Nothing super high-tech here, just a great blade shape, a great warranty, good steel, a tough handle & overall, a knife that will not fall apart or fail even under duress or unorthodox use.

Pros: Overall Quality, Handle Feel, Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Weight, Pocket Clip, Lock Type
Cons: Ease of Opening, None
Substantial and very sharp
I like the combo blade around the Barn. It is a good tool for heave cutting but sharp enough to to give you great confidence if you would need it Quickly. The knife has a great feel.
