Pros: Handle Feel, Ease of Opening, Handle Material

The primary question wrt the Covert FAST is, do you want the $50 FAST, or the $100 Covert?I've been a fan of the Covert since it appeared, superior design, premium blade steel, secure lock, and high production quality. So what do you give up when you buy the Chinese version and save $50?On first impression, not very much. The main worry would be reliability, but the blade locks into position automatically and through initial practice has not failed. The Chinese version is made with lower performance blade steel, but this knife is ground as a basic cutting tool and a backup weapon. It has a thick, strong edge grind. The steel is quite adequate for what it is intended for. The G-10 and steel handle are at lease as strong as the original Covert. Summary, the Covert FAST is made from less expensive blade steel, but more than compensates with the assisted opening, automatic lock-up, and lower price. Excellent value. The only TBD is how long the lock will wear. Buying the FAST instead of the original Covert saves you $50, and so far seems to cost you nothing in terms of performance for intended use.
