Description
GB1400: LMF II Survival, Coyote
Gerber

Down behind enemy lines? Left to fend for yourself? These are the scenarios that inspired the LMF II. Former military man, Jeff Freeman led the charge to engineer this fearless new 10" survival knife. And we field-tested with the troops. This knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage. Or sever a seat belt. Or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter. The over-molded handle successfully limits blistering. There is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, so the knife absorbs the shocks from hammering and prevents the shocks of electricity. Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest. The patented, integrated sharpener means edge retention in the field.

Cons:
Hard use urban blade
First off. The sheath for this knife is probably worth close to $50 alone. It's that good. Thick stitching, molle compatible, comes with leg straps, an dis easy to take apart to adapt to your kit. Built in sharpener I never use, but is a nice touch. This knife is marketed as a "survival" knife, but really does not belong in the woods. This isn't meant for bushcraft, wood processing, trap building, game cleaning... This is a without a doubt a utility knife meant for urban or "soldier" tasks. Cutting thru heavy rope/zipties. Prying open crates and cans. Breaking thru glass and other man made materials... this is thing like a wrecking bar with an edge. And of course, helps you get into those MREs everyone loves to hate. It's a thick chunk of steel, with an insulated handle to protect against both vibrations and shock. Glass breaker and "hammer" on the pommel is nice and solid. Of course, it is not a full tang knife... but you will probably break the blade before breaking the handle off of this thing. Out of the box, it was reasonably sharp, but not hair splitting. It is a thick chunk of steel designed for toughness, not delicate tasks after all. Gerber does serrations pretty well. I'm not a fan of serrations on a most blades, but they come in handy when dealing with man made materials, like thin aluminum, particle board and plexiglass. $75 for a made in the USA knife is great. Not every knife you own needs to be for camping or the wilderness. Most of us spend much more time in civilization than the bush.
