Description GB1627: LMF II ASEK (Aircrew Survival Egress) Knife Gerber
Down behind enemy lines? Left to fend for yourself? These are the scenarios that inspired the LMF II. Former military man, Jeff Freeman led the charge to engineer this fearless new 10" survival knife. And we field-tested with the troops.
This knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage. Or sever a seat belt. Or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter.
The over-molded handle successfully limits blistering. There is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, so the knife absorbs the shocks from hammering and prevents the shocks of electricity. Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches to a belt or MOLLE vest. The patented, integrated sharpener means edge retention in the field.

I got this knife a little more than a year ago, and one thing that I saw is that the blade grind was not even, making it so that I had to spend two hours re-profiling the blade. The sheath is great it is one of the reasons that I purchased the knife, you can jump out of a plane with this knife and there is now way that it is going to get lost. The two lines by the Velcro thing is a knife sharpener and it works great. The two leg straps that it comes with are nice, but I do not car for them. I took the top one off and put a belt through it, a second belt not the one that I use to hold up my pants so it would hang a little lower. Then I took the bottom strap and used that to keep the knife in one spot while I was moving, but it pulled up my shorts exposing the very white skin of my very upper most leg. But I bought this knife to take up to the boundary waters up here in northern Minnesota. And while sitting in the canoe my upper leg got super sunburned and turned a little purple. I took of the leg strap and now use a piece of Para cord to serve the same purpose of the strap. One thing that I don not like is the handle is made out of a hard rubber and does wear out a little bit, DO NOT try to use superglue to fix it because now I have to wear gloves if I do not want to get blisters. The knife blade is very hard and holds a good edge but it does chip when it hits the ground. My friend not a knife guy was playing with my knife when he thought that he should toss it and it hit the ground chipping it. The knife is very stainless and a good buy for the money in wet areas, but in dry areas I would get a knife by Ka-bar or Ontario with the 1095 blade steel, but it will rust quickly.
