An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Awesome Chopper!
What a great knife! The little "hook" on the end of the handle is a great and necessary feature. Because this knife is HEAVY! Thats the only reason I give it a 4 out of 5. The long sweeping blade is actually fairly easy to sharpen due to the perfectly uniform curve of the edge. And having properly heat treated steel at the perfect hardness as all Kabars have, it takes a very good edge fairly quick. When sharpening a blade this long, it helps to have the longest sharpener possible. I use a Accu-Sharp diamond steel that has a 14" rod. And a 11 1/2" diamond bench "stone". Both do a great job very quickly. The sheath is absolutely massive! The pocket on its front could probably hold a full size water bottle! Definitely big enough for a good set of survival gear and a First Aid kit.And as with all Kabar's Zombie Killin knive's, it comes with a set of black handle slabs too and a little skeleton knife in its own little sleeve behind the front pocket. And also a length of Zombie Toxic Nuclear green cord for a leg tie and some extra too. This is a great package and always gets a huge reaction when it gets pulled from the sheath. Everyone is very impressed! It even gives a measure of "faith" when trekking thru bear country! With its phenomenally long sweeping edge and it's serious weight, it can deliver a devastating blow from a powerful chop!

Fighting bowie on steroids with a pirate touch
This is an excellent knife. Extremely sharp from factory and well balanced for a knife of its size. Only the sheath is not my personal thing, I would prefer a more discrete one with IWB option, which I created from the one it came with, by cutting it apart and fitting some screws on it. Looks terrible, but it works.^^ I had the front backcut professionally sharpened, should make it a hell of a stabbing weapon. Its a great cutter for sure!

strong modified parang machete
Please don't bother reading the one star, he obviously knows nothing about machete styles and uses!!!! This is an excellent parang style machete with great weight and feel. SK5 blade material is outstanding! Maybe he could talk to Bear Grylls who was a special forces soldier and helped design a cheap compact parang for Gerber????? The only difference is that this parang has a lot more of a stabbing option. Other than that the handle curvature and knife blade design are extremely similar. Buy this machete/knife for its strengths, a great made in America modified parang machete!!! Only con is the ridiculous sheath and especially the zombie patch. They pigeon holed this great utility product with that color of draw string on the sheath.
