Pros: Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, None
Cons: Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard, Materials, Handle Material, Finish
OK at $100
This knife seems to have a lot of good things going for it. The problems arise from the handle, sheath, and fit & finish. The handle is poorly contoured, which is to say there is almost none, and the fasteners that hold the handle sides on are laughably undersized for the task. It's also the cheapest feeling micarta I've ever handled. The sheath is way too tight, but after years of struggling with it I suspect it would wear in. The general fit and finish is poor to barely acceptable at this price point. Obvious grind marks visible in the stonewashed finish in multiple places, lots of micarta tearout in the lanyard hole, and two fastener handle construction. The quality of the stock sharpening, tip strength, grind evenness, handle to tang edge matching, and makers mark etch were all good to excellent. I will probably replace the handle sides at some point with new ones that are riveted and epoxied in place, and make a new sheath for it. With those changes I feel it will be worth at least half the original MSRP of $400 ($400 is way too high for this knife, ever), instead of 25% like it sells for as is. It's too bad the handle and sheath let down this well made piece of 154CM.
