1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Pros: Weight, None
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard
Would be a great buy, but needs a sheath
I have not used this item yet, so I cannot rate that aspect. However, the machete seems very strong. Bought on a wholesale basis by the manufacturer, a sheath would be quite cheap and should be included, or at least offered at a reasonable price to the retail customer. Just handing someone a large machete with no protective cover for storage seems a bit tone deaf from a retailing standpoint.

Pros: Blade Material, Overall Quality, Finish
Cons: Blade Sharpness, None
Very hard, sturdy Machete
I love the look and feel of these. I purchased several for work recently and had them sharpened. They will be used to cut through brush for field inventory and if necessary to ward off animals. But the pepper spray we use is a more preferred choice for that. Because once they are sharp, they are frightening.

Ex-US Army jungle chopper
I use this Machete for about everything around my woodlot. Trims almost all hardened Oak limbs 2" and less from trees cut for firewood and saves on the chainsaw bar and chain. Clears the vines and thick entwined smaller brush to get to the trees, and clears a large aria around trees to be felled to give that "Safety Zone" to get back as the cut tree falls. @ first I was not crazy about the hand guard in the way, but after saving my knuckles a few times I have come to love it. This TOOL is good quality hardened steel, holds an edge well and would last the average homeowner a lifetime. I'm not average but I get 5 to 6 years of HARD use from these blades. I believe this is about # 6 for me. Those $10 flea market things last about one hour on my place, and they are either broken or so bent up you cannot sharpen.
