Description
ONRAT31095GR: RAT-3 Survival Knife, Plain Edge, OD Green Sheath
Ontario Knife Company

This collaboration between RAT and Ontario is a 3-3/4" fully concealable sheath knife called the RAT-3. It was designed for law enforcement, military and outdoorsmen who require compact cutting power.

The RAT-3 features a molded Blade-Tech sheath. The sheath easily integrates with a Blade-Tech drop holster or can be adapted in the field to fit other rigs commonly used within the military and law enforcement communities. The sheath comes standard with two types of retention devices: a TekLok and a Boot Clip and can be carried in left or right-hand mode. The sheath can also be stripped of retention devices and carried as a neck knife.

The RAT-3 also follows the other RAT designs using Micarta slabbed ergonomic handles and full flat grind for excellent slicing and cutting efficiency.

An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Kydex Sheath

Choice EDC
Of all the knives I own, I always seem to choose this one on my way out the door. Camping, hiking, fishing, lunchbox, utility, etc. It just works!

An excellent small knife.
This showed up flawlessly executed. I mean perfect fit on the scales, evenly ground edges, good retention in the sheath, even coat on the finish... I was pleased from the get go. I was taken aback at how slender this is. You see, I have a TAK-1 and a RAT-7. Those are some seriously stout knives. This seems petite. I can see it would make a good concealed knife, if it is legal for you to do so where you live and you have the proper credentials. I thought it would be too short for my meathooks, but actually using it showed me that was not the case. The handle is well rounded, and the choil really helps get into your work. This showed up sharp and I used it to cut up boxes, cut up lunch, make some fuzz sticks, lop off a few palmetto limbs as though preparing for a weenie roast... This would make an excellent companion knife with the RAT-7, and it stands well on its own. I'm sorry I didn't get one sooner! I would love to try out the D-2 version, but they are getting tough to find, and are pretty pricey. This is not very expensive, and is an excellent value.

A classic
This is a excellent EDC blade, tough as nails, holds a nice sharp edge, handle is a a little short but so happens to fit me perfectly and I have chubby medium hands and fit and finish and edge grind on mine is great. The sheath is not bad, not great but sevicable as I have not replace it with kydex yet. I did mold my own drop loop for sheath as teklok carried to high for me. I myself have had no issues with handle or screws but this is a cutting tool not wood processer as that job is left to heavier tools i.e. Ax/hatchet/large fixed blade depending on my situation. I have a very large knife collection of fixed and folders and keep strapping the rat 3 to my belt and ordered a second one today. My favorite carbon steel EDC choices are rat 3,izula 2, esse 4, bk14/16/17 and a couple tops knives.
