I bought this mostly on a lark, I mean how many tactical fountain pens have YOU seen? On arrival, the casing is solid and well formed, although the shape of the pointed tip is a bit flatter than I would have liked. The top screws off and will screw onto the base for extended use, but the pen is long enough to use comfortably without securing the top. The nib is stainless steel and has a bit of a grab on paper, but overall the writing feel is fine. For the money, it's a good, unique piece and quite functional.

Whole lotta pen for 25 bucks
I bought this pen, originally for its novelty factor. It's a fountain pen that can be changed over to a regular pen. The Schrade tactical fountain pen is made of all aluminum. The finish is matte black. The nib is a very large steel nib. I thought it would be a plain nib but it's nicely designed with attractive etching. My nib is a Fine but it writes more like a heavy Medium nib. This pen feels very substantial and durable in my hand. Mine writes nice and wet. There is absolutely no scratchiness when writing. It feels smooth as butter. It looks so awesome that the only downside is the plain steel nib. I would've liked to see this great looking pen with a blacked out nib. I have no idea why this pen is priced at 25 dollars. Oh yeah, and it only takes cartridges. I hope Schrade comes out with a model that take converters. The nib and feed easily pull out of the section for cleaning. because of this you can have a custom nib installed, If you want. The nib is iridium tipped, it's also very beefy, at almost an inch long. Although the nib is heavy, as far as nibs go. You can still get alittle line variation, because it's as long as it is. The clip is very stiff. It's attached to the pen with two Allen screws. Once you have this pen clipped in your pocket it's not going to fall out. The cap screws off. I like a screw off cap better than a pull off. The cap even screws on to post. And it's still a 25 dollar pen. If they continue to make this pen; fifty dollars would still be a good price. To change over to a ballpoint pen, you simply unscrew the section from the barrel, put the Schmidt ink roller ball cartridge into the barrel and screw on the new section. Now you have a roller ball. The tip of the roller ball section is shaped like a bullet. The unused ink in the fountain pen cartridge, you can just tear off a piece of grocery bag and wrap it around the cartridge. The schrade comes with 2 fountain pen ink cartridges and 1 rollerball ink cartridge. You can buy the rollerball cartridge from any office supply. Short international ink cartridges will fit the fountain pen. The reason it won't take a converter is because inside the barrel is tapered in. I don't know why, it just is. If you're someone who is in to this stuff, you could even change the color of this thing. It's big enough that it would be easy to powder coat any number of colors. You could even spray it with rustoleum "pick your color".
