Description
SOGAE21: AE21 Aegis Mini
SOG

Aegis (ee-jis), which in Greek means shield or protection, is also the code name for the world's premier integrated air defense system and the sea-based element of the United States Ballistic Missile Defense System.

The comprehensive Aegis line of premier folders is fully integrated with top end systems. Start to open the knife, and let Aegis finish the action with a bang, using one of the surest assisted technologies (S.A.T.) out there! SOG's trademark bayonet reversible clip, built in safety with red/ready to go, and checkered DigiGrip handles all contribute to make Aegis a platform for today's changing world. Cover your back with Aegis outdoor or tactical blades.

Nice knife
This is smaller than my Benchmade assisted opener. However that is not an issue. It's size is just what I hoped for it is comfortable to hold, the blade lock is like the Benchmade. I only make this comparisons because of the high standards and quality of both knives. The SOG AE21 Aegis came out of the packaging as sharpe as any knife I've ever had. The assisted opening is as smooth and sure as can devised. The handle material and shape is comfortable to hold while in use. As a young man I served in the U.S.C.G. and always carried a knife. I wish that a tool like this would have been available during my service. Great knife NO CONS.

Purchased as a backup.
I needed a new daily carry and found this one on sale. It is the proper size, length, and weight. It can with a serviceable edge for my purposes and the blade seems to lock in place without wiggle. I do find the knife difficult to open as the geometry doesn't seem to align. Once the blade is opened beyond a certain point, the spring assist takes over and opens fully. Closing the knife is another issue. As the blade is folded, it seems to reach a "cam" point and resists fully closing. I've had the knife attempt to re-open if I don't use a good degree of force to close. I don't think I would purchase this model again.
