UT22579GB: Big Pine Series | 3-7/8” Muskrat
Utica Cutlery Company | Makers of Kutmaster Knives & Tools

Lavish, deep green, jigged bone handles set the Big Pine series apart from any other knives found today. Blades are crafted from 1095 carbon steel blades with a taper ground razor edge. Classic Utica war shield is embedded into one side of the handle on most models. Bolsters are solid nickel silver.

1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel, most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Bone Handles
Bone Handles
One of the most common natural materials used in knife making, bone handles are usually textured to provide grip and can be dyed almost any color.

Pros: Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness, Handle Material, Ease of Opening, Blade Material, None
Cons: Handle Feel
Didn't need another muskrat, but this one called my name!
The Utica Muskrat just caught my eye. I have used an old Schrade muskrat for years in home processing venison and though I'd like to try this one next hunting season. The beautiful bone handles are in my opinion a little too sharp, as in 90 degree edges rather than a bevel that would please the hand a little more, other wise it appears to be a great knife. Touched up the factory edge and stropped it to a fine edge, just right for those little final touches before packaging the boneless venison chops. One more big plus for me is the fact that this knife is made in the U.S. A.!

excellent edge holding and blade shape
i'm an industrial field tech. i need a knife that will stay sharp this one does i cut everything from plastic shim using a metal backer, brass shim 0.004", wire ties, cardboard. it is still very sharp. only problem i've had is i lent it to someone that is used to a folding utility knife. he used to much force while cutting and bent the bar at the back of the knife. my fault i'll repair it and tell people to buy their own knife next time.treat it with a little respect and you'll have a great knife for a great price.
