I bought this model when I was young to emulate my hero MacGuyver(80s TV show). I had the good sense to bring it with me to Basic Training Camp and can say that I used it extensively in the field with great success during our exercises. It never failed me with its good assortment of tools - two size blades one big and one small (initially very very sharp be careful) , basic screwdriver (two sizes), bottle opener, can opener, puncture/needle, corkscrew- all of them I used on more than one occasion, many of those times not for their originally designed purposes. Aside from the fond memories of my youth it brings back - which will bias this review - I will point out that it can get easily lost if you just carry it in your pocket - it can easily slip out (I tied it to my jacket pocket in the field). Another thing, this classical model of SAK does not have a solid locking mechanism that will prevent it from collapsing should you happen to force it the wrong way.Again years later I used it in the workplace where, after a while, I almost lost it by accident. So distraught was I for the time when I was looking for it that , when found, I retired it safely with my other souvenirs - call me an old sentimental.I highly recommend it.

This, more than any of the other models, is the standard bearer of Victorinox knives, the direct descendant of the original "Officer's Knife." And like every Vic, it's beautifully made. Comfortable to carry and use. If you need a good, simple pocket knife, you can't go wrong with the Spartan.
