Cold Steel is right on target with the Gunsite Folders-the first authorized and official knives of the renowned Gunsite Training Center, one of the leading U.S. providers of training in firearms education.

Intelligently styled, these tanto folders are as imposing as the Gunsite Center's famed black raven trademark. Featuring a versatile "50/50" plain and serrated edge style with extraordinarily strong locking mechanisms (the larger model can hold up to 130 pounds!), the Gunsite Folders are ready for a variety of tactical missions. Like our Voyagers, the Gunsite folders have an all Zytel handle with and integral pocket clip for easy carry.

Review 1: 4   Headline: This knife has a very good blade.
Pros: Blade Material , Lock Ease of Use , Pocket Clip , Blade Sharpness , Weight , Ease of Opening ,
Cons: Handle Material , Handle Feel
by Alex From Maryland on 08/19/2008
First the good: This knife has a very good blade. The modifications on their 5" Tanto Voyager such as the gimping and top bevel are great improvements. The combo edge on this knife is one of my favorites as it has enough plain and serrated edge sections, due to its length. The steel and heat treatment on this blade are excellent, as are the grinds. It looks great and cuts as well as a full sized fixed blade (and better than many). This knife is lightweight and slim enough to carry comfortably all the time, and it rides very low in the pocket with a very minimal clip. I carried it every day for nearly two years. Now the not so good: The handle on this knife is just Zytel, no liners, no nothing. it allows the knife to be light, but it is certainly not the most comfortable grip. Also there is very little protecting the users hands from slipping onto the blade, especially since the end of the handle protrudes from one's grip due to its length. The other problem with the handle is that the lock is anchored in Zytel, and the large blade creates enough leverage so that with hard use, the lock will eventually develop some play. Overall: I like this knife, it is my favorite of the XL Cold Steel folders. It is sturdy and a great cutter, but not a 'hard use' knife. I would certainly recommend it if it suits your needs.
