Buck Knives

Many additions have been added to the tactical line of knives, including Buck's first automatic. The 898 Impact springs open with the push of a button, readying the S30V steel blade for quick action. The button lock style keeps the knife locked open and closed to prevent accidental deployment and includes a slide safety mechanism. The aluminum handle has a texture inlay which secures the grip, while offering a lightweight material.

Cons: None
Excellent First Auto
Perfect entry-level auto by Buck Knives. The Impact is a breeze to open and the locking mechanism is smooth and simple as well as well-placed. Buck did well by focusing on function and functionability instead of glitz and glam. The knife fits well inside the pocket or rests comfortably inside the waist-band. I expected a well-made, well-designed and handy pocket auto from Buck and that's exactly what they gave me! My only "but" is that I'd love to see a full-size tactical-outdoorsman auto in the future to compliment this excellent starting product. Perhaps a Pro-Tech/Buck/Strider 3-way auto collaboration?

I LOVE my Buck "Impact"
This is an "EDC" knife that fills a multitude of roles. It works around the house in capacities both large and small. It also works in the field to clean small game. It holds an edge like a champ! The S30V steel is SO good, it just can't be beaten! No compromises, no "it's okay, but not great" steel. Only the BEST from Buck! Buck really "did it's homework" before producing it's first automatic. I'm glad that they built this one. For years I felt that they should build their 110 as an automatic, but this was a MUCH better idea! All Buck has to do is build a mode with a 2" blade for the California market and they'll capture that market as well. I have owned Buck knives for more than 40 years and if this is any indication of how they will continue to build their knives, I'll keep being a committed buyer as long as I can draw a breath. I'm a Buck customer for life. Keep it up Buck, the world is your oyster.

A different kinda auto....
The Buck 898 Impact is an un-pretentious kind of "switchblade". It doesn't attract attention looks like a lot of the new Buck knives and- frankly- just does it's work and slips smoothly back into my pocket. Buck made an effort to keep this auto EDC-friendly. With a little bit of discretion no one ever notices that it IS an auto. No loud "pop" when it opens. It comes with an S30V blade which is easy to sharpen and holds an edge for a days work. A couple good swipes at the strop and she's good as new. As a guy with big hands i'd see it bigger, or a slightly larger version. The slide lock keeps it open just as well as shut- protecting nosy kids from losing finger-tips! Over-all Buck's first official entry into the automatic knife field is an excellent one- well-though-out and made in America. Good enough for me.
