Description
CS29TLCT: 29TLCT Large Voyager Tanto
Cold Steel

The Cold Steel Voyagers are, ounce for ounce, one of the strongest folders on the market. And this is a fact, not an idle boast. Each knife features precision made parts with a stiff spring and the incomparable Tri-Ad lock mechanism which is arguably the strongest, most reliable, low maintenance lock in the world!

The thick, extra wide blades are made from Carpenter CTS BD1 alloy steel and meticulously ground to a thin edge for maximum shearing potential. This thin edge also allows the blade to be honed to astounding sharpness. And, because of the high carbon content of the steel, and their near perfect heat treatment, you'll find this sharpness last a surprisingly long time.

The Voyager Series also offers all the other latest refinements in lockback construction including lightning quick, one-handed opening, state-of-the-art mechanical fasteners, massively oversized pivot pins that are fully adjustable and properly hardened, and dual stainless steel pocket clips for ambidextrous carry and deployment.

The Griv-Ex handles feature 6061 heat treated aluminum liners for the utmost in strength and stiffness and are ergonomically designed to afford a wide array of grip options including the palm reinforced forward grip for which they are particularly well suited.

Griv-Ex is unparalleled as a handle material as it is considerably stronger than Zy-Ex and, when deeply textured, offers a terrific non-slip grip. As an added bonus, it's impervious to moisture and won't crack, warp or shrink and remains remarkably resistant to abrasion or discoloration.

As tools these lightweight, super sharp knives are appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, chute knife or police/military and survival/rescue applications.

Cons:
Excellent knife
This is my first Voyager, therefore I can't compare it to older models, however I have watched and read many reviews for the Voyager series and, I am aware that this model has been recently upgraded. The Voyager Large Tanto is one hell of an awesome knife at the $60 dollar price point. After the reviews I was very excited to get this blade, and I was not disappointed. The Voyager lives up to its reputation in full force. Holding the knife in your hand it's a nice medium to light EDC weight. The blade is an absolute beast, thick, beautifully finished with the stonewash, it's a serious blade that instills confidence in the owner. Thumb studs are excellent, opening the knife is ultra smooth with the new upgraded washers, finishing off with a resonating, purposeful, click against the triad lock. It sounds beautiful. Releasing the lockback is not difficult as some have mentioned on older models. I was surprised to find the release just right. The only two draw backs are the handle materiel and the well known extra stiff pocket clip. Admittedly, the handle material gives the knife a "cheap" look, however you can overcome this with a utilitarian mindset. While it looks cheap, it's strong, lightweight, cost effective, and gives the knife a masculine, functional, unpampered aura. In the same vein the handle design is fantastic, providing a very comfortable grip. Last, the pocket clip is very very strong and will need some modification to loosen it up for my taste. Overall, this knife is really good, I recommend it to anyone looking. I'm carrying it EDC in pocket, along side a fixed blade. Definitely get this knife it truly is 5 star.

Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Even Better than Before
The new Voyagers, hopefully, will retain the old models' position as the "everyman" Cold Steel folder in the eyes of fans- the new knives certainly deserve it. I don't think anyone can complain about the BD1 steel- it's significantly more rust resistant than AUS-8A, with better edge retention as well, and the relevant knives (Voyager, Counter Point, Rajah) still sell for a very affordable price. The new Voyagers seem to be a little smoother in the pivot and lock release, as well. What else is there to say? The new Voyagers got a home-run upgrade. The only thing that wasn't fixed/improved is the pocket clip tension/design- users may want to sand the handle beneath the pocket clip and/or bend the pocket clip lip outward with pliers (as with the older models). Out of the box, the pocket clip is practically jump-rated, and may need user adjustment. Don't let such a minor thing lessen your opinion of this knife though- even though the Voyagers may not be Cold Steel's flagship folders, they are very well designed for those who like a larger knife. If you ever tired of too-thin G10, this is the knife for you.
