Dirk and Sgian Dubh
The "Dirk" (034-PP) is an early model (circa 1700) and is similar in form to earlier ballock knives. The blade is "backed" (single-edged and wedge shaped in cross section). The handle is hand carved Macassar ebony. The "Sgian Dubh" (002-SH), or sock knife, appeared in military use around 1800 and is still used in kilted dress uniform. This crown-stag handled version with its silver cabuchon is made in Sheffield.
