ADVTACBUT2BW: Tac Butcher Gen 2 Flipper, Black Stonewashed
Andre De Villiers Knives
The Butcher is a mid-tech design from Andre De Villiers that is one serious folder. Now it's available in a Gen 2 Tactical model with some added and upgraded features. It's still smooth, fast, sharp, and stout - really everything one looks for in a tactical blade. This generation Tac Butcher has a longer 4" Sheepsfoot blade made from D2 tool steel with a black stonewashed finish. The larger handle, made from black stonewashed chevron milled titanium, gives the user more real estate to grip—perfect for gloved or larger size hands. Andre kept the ambidextrous thumb disk and swedge from previous models but removed the lockbar stabilized that Rick Hinderer uses in favor of a replaceable lockbar insert that doubles as an overtravel arrestor. A redesigned milled titanium pocket clip is the final addition Andre went with on the Gen 2 Tac Butcher, a big improvement over the spring clip design. Every other aspect that made the Butcher so popular including the flipping action and overbuilt toughness is retained, which makes this knife a perfect choice for your next deployment or night out on the town.

The pivot point is what sets this knife apart from all others. It has an inset Torx screw that fits inside the pivot, allowing you to tighten down the pivot while adjusting the centering or overall smoothness of the action. That action is very smooth, to say the least. Jimping on the flipper tang is sharp and functional; really nothing was overlooked in this awesome design. Andre put in a large cutout relief to make closing the knife easier and the ergonomics are spot on. This may not be your typical looking knife, but get it in your hand and you'll definitely warm up to the design thanks to all the great features it has and the fact that the action is on par with even the best flipping designs.

In Keeping With Excellent!
After viewing the line of knives crafted by the esteemed Andre De Villiers, I lingered in the background and hedged for some time before purchasing one of AdV' s Knives. I now have three (3), simply because they are the true working combination of the perfect EDC and a 'Work Horse Tool'! After all, isn't the first use of knives historically a basic 'Tool'? Well, Mr. De Villiers has accomplished the superb task of blending these blades with the qualities we all look for in an EDC.My selection, (This Tac Butcher Gen 2 Flipper 4" D2 Black Stonewashed Blade with V-Milled Titanium Handles; the Harpoon F17 Flipper 3.875" N690 Black Stonewashed Blade, Bronze Cerakoted Titanium Handles, Black Hardware; and the 'true Beast, the Wharny #1 Flipper 4.125" M390 Simulated Hamon Blade, Stonewashed Titanium Handles have to be the most awesome threesome set of knives I have from one very skilled Knifemaker Andre De Villiers.Until I purchased my first model from AdV, the Harpoon F17, I thought they would be too heavy for an EDC blade; well, somehow Mr. De Villiers has perfectly balanced the best traits of a really street-smart, tough blade with this smooth-as-butter opening, tough 'Beast', for it possesses the best elements of both.Equally impressive because of their mass, the first time experience of holding and opening/closing of any of the three will win you over to this deadly combination of features. These 'Dogs of War' blades will impress the crowd with their 'street credibility'. Priced well below some of the others of the same genre, you will be widely admired by your friends in carrying any of these models, and these blades will take on the challenge of any tough task you can put them to.Don't hesitate to try any of the AdV brand knives, most especially any of the three I've named above in this review.Good shopping to you all.David O'
