Andre De Villiers Knives Wharny #1 Flipper 4.125" M390 Simulated Hamon Blade, Stonewashed Titanium Handles
ADVWHARNY1: Wharny #1 Flipper
Andre De Villiers Knives
The Wharny is another evolution of the mid-tech Butcher design from Andre De Villiers that has undergone many changes during its existence. First, it was only a custom piece, then it became a mid-tech, then it was a Tac model before becoming what it is now...the Classic Butcher. This Wharny is very similar to the Classic Butcher in terms of size, feeling, weight...ie, everything but its blade shape. The Wharny keeps the flat cutting edge but the spine is noticeably more rounded which will allow this shape to puncture and stab better. It's still smooth, fast, sharp, and stout - really everything one looks for in a tactical blade. This one has a 4.125" Wharncliffe blade made from Bohler M390 stainless steel with a bead blasted simulated hamon finish. The handle is made from blasted then stonewashed titanium with perfectly executed jimping on the thumb ramp and backspacer for excellent purchase.
The pivot point is what sets this knife, and all ADV blades, apart from the others. It has an inset Torx screw that fits inside the pivot, allowing you to tighten down the pivot while adjusting the centering or overall smoothness of the action. That action is very smooth to say the least. Jimping on the flipper tab is sharp and functional; really nothing was overlooked in this awesome design. Andre put in a large cutout relief to make closing the knife easier and has incorporated a replaceable lockbar insert that doubles as an overtravel arrestor. The milled titanium pocket clip on the Wharny allows for superior retention in thick pant pockets and incorporates a rolling ball design for an easier draw. This may not be your typical looking knife, but get it in your hand and you'll definitely warm up to the design thanks to all the great features it has and the fact that the action is on par with even the best flipping designs in the industry.

Semi-Custom or Mid-Tech knives are knives produced by a process in which the designer has more direct--but not complete--involvement; parts of these knives may still have been made by others.
Developed by Chris Reeve, it functions like a liner lock but the lock is comprised of one of the handle scales. It's an extremely strong and easy to manipulate lock.
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
A tougher steel than S30V, it retains the excellent corrosive properties and ability to take an edge, but improves on the ability to hold that edge.
A nonferrous metal, it's prized for its high strength to weight ratio and is often used on higher end knives.
