Be prepared to do some work....
This knife, while it looks pretty good in the pictures, is not what I was expecting from a quality of build perspective. I have experience with knives made in India, so my expectations were fairly low to begin with, but when I received this knife I knew I was in for some major work. Here's what I experienced out of the box:1. The metal fittings on the sheath are literally held on by white "Elmer's glue" type substance. As a result, the metal tip fell off imediately while pulling it out of the box! The other fitting was loose enough to pull it right off.2. The geometry of the blade grinding was off to a point that I had to literally grind down over a pound of metal to make it correct.3. The astetic details on the blade were nearly absent, unlike what is seen in the pic.4. The sheath was damaged due to something hitting it and denting the leather.5. The brass guard was damaged and slightly bent upwards due to some sort of high impact.I give this knife 2 stars only from a perspective that, as a hobby restorer, I have a workshop and advanced skills capable of "correcting" this knife and make it historically accurate, which was definitely not when I received it. Therefore, for me at least, this knife did serve as a nice "blank" to start with. However, for anyone who wishes to buy this knife under the pretence that they're getting a "good knife" be advised that you may not be getting what you think you're getting. For anyone who wishes to spend a weekend with proper tools (and I mean that literally...) and "correct" this knife, it does seem to have quality steel and decent components overall, and it is a good "project" piece to work with. However, if I were looking for a "good knife" that was perfect right out of the box, and got what I received, I would be leaving 1 star and would be sending this knife back for a full refund. So... buyer beware...

Civil War Era Deluxe Bowie Knife
This is a very cool knife. It has no sharpening on the blade. This caused me to buy a Worksharp Sharpener...which is great. I was able to sharpen it really well. The fit and finish is pretty good but not excellent. The sheath is really great and you will need a sword frog to hang the knife.Great for the price. I would buy again.also take a look at the Ames Rifleman Bowie...love it.
