I love it!
I don't understand why Bear OPS doesn't have a higher rating. Maybe I lucked out... it is my first pricey butterfly as well, so perhaps I just don't know what good quality is then. But coming from someone who's grown up mostly playing with balisongs that were handmade from the Philippines in the 1980s and Chinese made from the '90s, this thing blows them out the water. I don't believe these come with a sheath, which would've been nice to have... but it does come with a fancy box, and the fact that it's American made fills me with pride and joy. The damascus is MUCH nicer quality than the photos I've seen (including on here). So again, maybe mine is a fluke then, as this is the only Bear OPS / Bear & Son knife I have experience with, but I absolutely recommend it if this is what they have to offer at the price I picked it up at ($160). The grooves in the steel are much finer, the satin silver finish gives it a very gorgeous, professional look and provides a complimentary color contrast to the unusual blade. My only real complaint with this knife is the safety latch - it slips out of place very easily and mostly just gets in the way. I'm tempted to remove it, as the torx screws are already as tight as can be and it still swings freely most of the time. Also, there are three very tiny chips that came with my blade that I've not been able to smoothen out, but it's not significant. (It may be an issue for someone who just wants to collect and keep them on display or something, but I like to at least use mine for simple tasks like box cutting and opening packages). Other than that, I'm very happy with it. It's a little odd that for the style of blade, that they didn't sharpen both sides, which I had expected it to be at first, although that may be because it can be a lot more difficult to flip a double edged bali.

Pros: Weight, None
Cons: Lock Ease of Use
nice knife, but fell short of it's price
Came out of the box plenty sharp, but not quite ready to flip. The safe side of the blade was very rough as it was not polished after being eched (it being damascus steel, the blade has been dipped in an acid to bring out definition, this partially deformed the form unless polished). The rough side eventually cut through my skin. I was late sanded smooth. The latch stoped working on day two. I found that the tang pins were too small and the latch lost tension. I happened to have some spares laying around and fixed it.In all the knife is as beautiful as pictured and glides like a champ. The handles have a nice grip and add to the overall look. Considering the price tag and the two problems, I would only recomend the knife if your willing to do a little work on it yourself.
