BH15TT10BK: Tatang

Tatang is a Tagalog term of address reserved for only the most feared and respected martial artists. In honor of this proud warrior tradition, we have made a knife that distills the savage cutting power of the traditional Filipino barong into a smaller, more versatile package. When gripped at the rear of the pistol-grip-style, thermoplastic rubber handle, the weight-forward balance of the Tatang's black epoxy-coated 1085C tool-steel blade gives it tremendous reach and chopping power. Choking up on the integral subhilt shifts the balance back for more controlled cutting, trapping, and backcutting with the sharpened false edge. Designed by edged-weapons expert Michael Janich, this incredible knife comes complete with a Kydex sheath.

Pros: Overall Quality, Weight, Finish, None
Cons: Handle Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness
Nice Knife, but
Nice knife but mine wasn't real sharp out of the box. Uneven grind on the main blade which shouldn't be too hard to fix since it's 1085. Sheath isn't Kydex, it's injection molded nylon, say's so right on the box. All in all, it's still a nice knife for $50. Would like to have a better sheath and better handles, might have to do something about that in the future, but for the money, it's a pretty nice knife. I would still buy again knowing all this. thank's Knife Center for the great price!

Going, going… gone?
With a price this low, I imagine these will soon be discontinued (Introduced in 2007?). You may want to pick up half a dozen to sell to future gamers, when “Call of Duty MW3” goes retro, ten years from now. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> I’ve never played Call of Duty. I think the last video game I played was the original, Pong. In my day you went outside and played “Army” in the woods with 10, or so, other kids from the neighborhood. I got a kick out of a Tatang review on another website, where the reviewer said that Tatang was a pretty good replica of the Call of Duty Knife. Does life imitate art, or, art imitates life? I don’t think Michael Janich was sitting around playing Call of Duty one day, and said, “Hey, I think I’ll copy this knife.” : ) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Arrived sharp. Handle works for me (grippy/hand-filling/comfortable/versatile). Great design. 1080 carbon steel is a good compromise between toughness, and edge holding in a large combat knife. Injection molded Nylon sheath (Kydex-like) is nice, but no belt attachment on sheath. They give you two small pre-drilled straps w/hardware, but the holes on straps do not match up to any of the holes on the sheath. ??? No instructions, either. I’ll figure something out. I’d probably know, if I played Call of Duty. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you have been holding out on Tatang ‘till you could get one at a bargain price, I think now is the time to jump on these. If you collect combat/tactical knives, Tatang is definitely one to have in your collection.

Great combat blade.
Got my Tatang back in early 2011 for my deployment to Iraq. Ditched the garbage sheath for a kydex dropleg scabbard. This knife helped save my butt more than 20+ times. Doing patrols at night where most dangers came from feral dogs that love nothing more than to want to bite you. Walking around our AO where an obvious gunshot would be unnecessary and give away your position this blade came to aid in the slaying of animals that threatened my well being. Having it on the drop leg holster gave it a distinct advantage to be able to be drawn like a handgun. The curved handle helped serve as a perfect fulcrum point for precise down thrusts that would easily go 1/4 through someones neck. This knife is well balanced and can't say anything more than its a nice that the blade is much larger than the hilt. Put it to real world applications like intended and not for battoning wood or some video game b.s. enthusiast. Will never part with this blade away.
