Cons: Pocket Clip, Blade Sharpness
Nice little BIG knife
When I saw a Benchmade that I could carry "tip down" I knew I was going to buy it. I no longer buy any knives that carry tip up, and have always wanted an axis lock Benchmade. This SOCP fit the bill and had a part serrated blade as well.First of all, the fit and finish is excellent, everything fits right & tight with scales and liners perfectly aligned. The blade is sharp but, sadly, not shaving sharp. (If it had been I would have said fit & finish was perfect) It's a big knife, but is so slim and light, it carries like a much smaller knife. The scales have great texture and offer a very secure grip (they look like G10 instead of Zytel). The "deep carry" clip is mountable in all four positions and doesn't interfere with any of the controls, regardless of which position it's mounted. I always equate "deep carry" with "hard to retrieve" and this knife is no exception. I wish they hadn't used the folded under clip design, it would have been so much easier to deploy. The bayonet style blade has an unsharpened false edge and I really wish it had a traditional, full thickness spine instead. The extra mass would make the blade easier to open, easier to use, easier to sharpen and stronger, even though it wouldn't garner as much attention from the weekend warriors who are impressed by such styling features. All in all a very nice big knife, that carries easily, with a smaller circumference, even small hands will find it comfortable.
