BM5551: 555-1 CPM-20CV/G10 Sheepsfoot Mini Griptilian
A Benchmade classic upgraded with G10 handles and premium steel.

The Griptilian is born of custom knifemaker Mel Pardue's passion for functional designs. You release the creature's ferocity with a thumb stud. At the very heart of the Griptilian, is the exclusive AXIS locking mechanism. This modern marvel gives life to a cutting tool like you have never experienced before, especially in a lightweight folder. Rock-solid ambidextrous function is sure to tame the most die-hard of traditionalists. And you can grab onto the lightweight, handle with its grip-textured surface and rib covered spine that grabs you right back for a "can't let go" grip. This model comes with gray G10 handle scales, blue G10 accents, blue barrel spacers and a reversible deep carry pocket clip for right or left side carry. The blade steel has also been upgraded on this model to CPM-20CV stainless steel. CPM-20CV is virtually identical in chemical composition to Benchmade's current M390 steel but is made in the US by Niagara as opposed to Bohler which is based Austria. It offers better edge retention but is not quite as tough to resharpen as M390.

  • AXIS A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar it's inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

Great Buy
Knifecenter has become my go to site to buy knives. Always great service from them. This is my first Benchmade and it didn't disappoint. The size is perfect for edc right around 3". The handle is a little crowded if your hands are on the larger size but still really good feel in hand. The sheepsfoot blade is a little unusual but comes with the thumbhole which I like so much better than thumb studs. The axis lock is sturdy and easy to use, it came out of the box really smooth and has broken in and gotten better. I have so many black/OD green/FDE brown knives so I'm really liking the blue and gray. The steel is high end and I'm sure will get the job done. I waited for the newness to pass before I wrote this to get over the honeymoon period. I think this is a great buy. It has everything I look for in a knife with the great color scheme. One other thing I like is the way the knife flips. I'm not usually a guy who flips a knife out of boredom or fidget, but this knife has turned me into one.

Great E.D.C.
I really like the new Mini Griptilian. The Gray G10 Handles are beautiful and feel great too. I haven't tested the blade yet, but I'm sure it will prove to be a fantastic blade metal for holding it's edge, etc. The only downside to the particular one that I received is that, unlike all my other Benchmade knives that came very sharp, this one has a great edge, but it doesn't feel nearly as sharp as it could be. I don't know if this is normal with Benchmade, but it seems like some of their knives come pretty sharp from the factory, while others are not. This doesn't take away from the knife. It just means I need to sharpen it some to get it where I want it.
