BO02BO293: VoxKnives Rold SK5
Boker Plus

For many outdoor enthusiasts, a carbon steel blade is still the preferred material when it comes to practical use. The ease of re-sharpening compared to chrome steels is an enormous advantage for many users. Therefore, Boker Plus is pleased to offer the Rold, one of their most popular camp and outdoor knives, made from high-quality SK5 carbon steel. The powder coating of the blade provides outstanding corrosion protection. The green canvas Micarta handle scales provide a secure and comfortable grip. The very well balanced design clearly shows the long years of experience from Jesper Voxnaes regarding the demands of hunting and the outdoors. Includes a nylon sheath with puncture protection.

Great knife design
When the Boker Plus Vox Rold came out several years ago, I immediately purchased one because I liked the size, design and steel (it was originally available only in D2). I wound up purchasing 4 of the D2 stonewashed version. I recently purchased the black D2 version and this black SK5 version for a comparison of the steels. The SK5 steel acts much like D2 in sharpening and use, though I think the D2 reached a finer edge a little easier. The D2 seems to hold a finer edge a little longer, though both edges are easily touched up and hold a good edge very well. I am one of the old guys who believe a knife should be used for knife things, not for chopping, digging, hammering, etc., so I may never learn which steel is toughest, but I figure they are both tougher than anything I will ever try to cut. The quality of both knife and sheath are excellent. The quality of the design, geometry and comfort are excellent. Boker is a good, dependable company that will probably be around forever. I believe this knife design is one of the best designs to come out in the last 60 years for a person who wants a single, good, dependable knife for general use in any activity. I would not be unhappy if I were a hermit and this were my only knife. The question of D2 vs SK5 has been debated for years. If you aren't a serious critic of steel performance, you won't know the difference. The black finish on the SK5 is a little rougher than the D2. The SK5 I purchased came with an excellent nylon sheath rather than the kevlar sheath of the D2 version. I much prefer the nylon. From many years experience, you can trust Boker quality.
