BO111655: Gulo EDC

Boker

In terms of its size, blade shape and handling, the Boker Gulo made by knifemaker Steven Kelly is without a doubt the perfect everyday knife. The Gulo EDC definitely takes this into account, convincing with its successful concept and excellent value for money. The stonewashed blade made from Bohler N690 has ball bearings and is secured with a framelock on the stainless steel handle back. The front scale is made from light G10, which reduces the overall weight and offers a pleasant grip.

N690 Stainless Steel

The cobalt-alloyed N690 by Bohler (not to be confused with the lower-grade N695!) is a very reliable upper middle-grade steel Boker uses in their Solingen, Germany factory for a wide variety of projects. The fine-grained N690, which ranks above 440C, offers convincing performance data in all areas. It is often sold as N690Co – the "Co" stands for cobalt and describes the exact same steel.

Cons: Overall Quality, None
Great design
Really nice but not perfect. Blade centering is off, enough that it's *almost* rubbing the frame on one side. Not a big deal but there's also a tiny amount of blade play. Boker Plus has a lot of great designs I really want to like, I just wish the fit and finish was a little better. Everything else is fantastic--smooth action, great frame lock, blade is sharp, nice grind, great looks.

Really, really, nice knife!
I am new to paying attention to knives. I have recently purchased four new knives, the boker being in the middle of the price range. I can say this knife, from the box it came in, to the overall construction was flawless. The S.K. inspired blade design is subtly strong looking without being over the top. The stonewashed finish on the metal looks very nice. The opening mechanism is precise. All you have to do is put just the right amount of static pressure and the blade will flip out fast and smooth. Overall, for the price and quality you will be very happy with your purchase. In addition, it is German made!
