Ingenuity incarnate.

If there's one universal truth to the man behind the Radic, it's that if he wants something done, he'll do it himself. That was true when, at age 15, Ken Steigerwalt made his first knife sitting at his kitchen table, and it's certainly true now as he releases this smarter, simpler, tougher everyday carry knife.

If you're looking for something muted, covert, and slightly boring, don't check Ken Steigerwalt's garage in Orangeville, Pennsylvania. Ken is the type of guy that toes the line between knife designer and artist, and the Radic everyday carry folding knife is definitive proof.

The first clue that this is no ordinary everyday carry (it is named after the word "radical", after all) is the eye-catching modified sheepsfoot blade complete with a satin finish. One push on the blade's prominent thumb stud, and you'll be sure it's a showpiece. Manually open the blade 30 degrees, and the OutBurst spring assisted mechanism jumps to life, completing the rotation until it's caught by the locking liner and secured in place. Extended jimping on the spine finishes the sleek look.

Tough G10 handles prove that a true artist knows form follows function. They're at once incredibly durable, easy to keep ahold of no matter the conditions, and shaped perfectly to balance out the burly blade.

Ken's not one to play by the rules. The artful utility of the Radic shows his true colors.

Cons: Handle Feel, None
different and practical
The Radic has become one of my two EDCs. I really like the blade shape--interesting yet practical--and the whole knife seems to radiate usefulness. It's a sturdy knife, and the blade came sharpened to the point that I won't have to introduce the edge to my water stones any time soon. The previous reviewer mentioned the shape of the stud as somewhat uncomfortable, and that may contribute to the slight problem opening the knife, if problem there is. But it's certainly openable, and once it's open the blade is rock solid due to the lock design.I love the handle for its utilitarian, no-nonsense design, but I find the back corner with its extra angle (which is mirrored at the blade end) digs a bit into my palm. Despite that tiny bit of discomfort, I find the Radic to be a quality knife and a excellent EDC.

Almost perfect
Great knife, the only thing I wish was different is the thumb stud for opening it. It’s a normal round stud, but it would be more comfortable if it had a flat area to push on... besides that, it’s a beautiful piece.
