CR7904DG: 7904DG Hammond Cruiser, OD Green

Columbia River Knife & Tool

Jim Hammond's Cruiser is a multi-purpose folder that has garnered much praise.

The Cruiser abounds with design subtleties. For example, the handle features a forward slanted friction grooved thumb ramp and a deep finger choil for the index finger, allowing what is known as the "fencer's grip".

To simplify the clean open build, a unique blade stop channel is CNC machined within the blade. This in turn, allows a friction grooved, tapered blade extension (or flipper) which aids opening the Cruiser, and then neatly completes the finger choil. It has been called "the sweetest flipper in the business."

In translating Jim's custom Cruiser into production, Columbia River used their extremely durable InterFrame build with 420J2 stainless steel liners, one locking. The injection molded OD Green textured Zytel scales featuring their Operator's Grip are radiused and contoured with swells to perfectly fit the hand. The long handle, with a pronounced pommel, feels secure and entirely right.

Their work and sport version of the Cruiser use tough 8CR14MoV stainless steel for the clip-point blade. It has a high hollow grind that curves upward near the tip and a long false top edge, making it an exceptionally versatile work tool. Dual thumb studs and Teflon blade bearings at the blade pivot allow smooth one hand opening and closing.

They've also incorporated the patented Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®) into the Cruiser, which makes the folder a virtual fixed blade when engaged.

To give the Cruiser maximum utility in a variety of work situations, Columbia River had Jim design a special paddle style pocket clip, which can be attached in four positions: tip up, tip down, left or right. (The Cruiser is not designed for tip-up in-pocket carry.) Two clips and extra torx screws are included. The stainless steel clips are Teflon plated.

Great Bug out bag knife
I've got a lot of higher priced knifes in this size range but I like to rotate them for EDC so I thought I'd get a budget blade to throw in a new bug out bag I'm going to use as a lightweight short term bag.I wanted something with a large blade I could use as a beater knife. This knife seemed to be perfect at under twenty dollars. I've been doing a lot of slingshot carving with it and it holds a edge far longer than I thought it would. I like the hand filling grip it provides and the security of the double lock system. Its easy one handed deployment with the flick of the wrist is a plus as well. Its a super knife worth a lot more than the asking price imo.

Hammond Cruiser
Bought for EDC. Bulkier than some, but plan to carry on fishing trips and around mountain forested camp.

Pros: Lock Type, Handle Material, Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
Cons: Pocket Clip, None
Great but missing QC control
The cons are the blade has a little wiggle and the knife comes with a extra pocket clip so you can position it in any of the 4 spots. Right hand / left hand - tip up / tip down. I tried to move the pocket clip and the holes are too large and the screws do not tighten. The pros are this is a well designed knife! The detail it better than a $100 knife and this was only $20! The weight, handle material, and lock is really well designed. The second lock is really cool and it would have been my favorite if I could have put the clip where I want it.
