CS36M: 36M Drop Forged Hunter
Cold Steel

While on a research trip in Argentina, Cold Steel President Lynn C Thompson had the pleasure of using a solid steel hunting knife by French knifemaker Michel Achez.

He was incredibly impressed by Monsieur Achez's knife, which was both simple in design and astonishingly functional.

Inspired by Michel's work (and with his blessing), Lynn began exploring how to bring this classic hunter to a larger audience.

The Drop Forged Hunter is expertly heat treated and drop forged from 52100 High Carbon steel with a Rockwell Hardness of 58-59 for superior toughness. Its continuously curved, super-wide blade is both sharp and strong, designed to put in great work in even the most demanding conditions.

With no handle to break or no superfluous parts to rot, crack or get damaged in the field, the Drop Forged Hunter is a no-nonsense hard-working outdoor/hunting knife and survival tool.

Its ergonomic handle, with its integral finger guard deep comfortable trough and lanyard hole offers a very secure and comfortable grip even when wearing thick, heavy workman's gloves.

Supplied with a thick, traditional leather sheath, the Drop Forged Hunter is sure to be appreciated and valued by real hunters who will marvel at its performance and value for the money.

Cons: None
Surprisingly Sharp
This knife came in as a surprise to me. I had watched YouTube reviews and read comments from the community -- none of them would prepare me for the actual experience of having the knife on my hands and carefully looking at the manufacturing details.First, the perfect packaging. Second, the nice aesthetics. Third, how well balanced and comfortable it performed on hand. And, finally, how sharp it came in!When considering buying the Cold Steel Drop Forged, I was, at the same time, imagining how I would the naked handle in something more friendly to grasp. Foolishness -- the handle could not be better for use. And how elegant it is! If you are considering buying one of these, hurry! They may be discontinued son...Thanks, Knife Center, for the Special Price offer that encouraged me to buy this knife!

Cons: Finish
Good utility knife, finish is terrible
This is a good general use fixed blade, useful for Skinning, Cooking, Bushcraft, etc. The big failure is with the coating. The finish began chipping off the blade almost immediately. I removed the finish from the blade with a wire wheel, and I've been satisfied with this knife since.

Thanks, may I have another?
I was intrigued by a solid 51200 steel hunter/survival knife. Simplicity meets beast, heavy beast. Plunge grinds are a little rough and a sharpening choil might be nice but none of that takes away from the utility. Not so sure about the blade coating yet and it came pre-worn at the tip so there is that. Might be nice to have a couple more for the bug-out bags at the sale pricing.
