CS90N: 90N Norse Hawk

Cold Steel

During the 10th century, Viking raiders were a familiar and dreaded sight. Ranging as far north as Russia and as far east as Constantinople, the Vikings wielded their terrible, fearsome battle axe. The influence of the Viking weapon indeed far out-lasted the reign of the Vikings themselves. Its sleek lines and brute strength may be seen today in axes, hatchets and tomahawks. The Cold Steel 90N Norse Hawk has a curved cutting edge to facilitate deep, slashing cuts and terminates in two sharp points which are useful in hand-to-hand combat. The bottom point may be used to capture an opponent's shield, leg, arm, shoulder or neck, momentarily immobilizing or bringing him closer so that he'll be easier to deal with. The top point may be used to execute direct chops or, with a thrusting motion, to pierce or gouge. The Norse Hawk is like its ancient Viking ancestors; merciless.

Drop Forged Tomahawks

These superb tomahawks are precision drop forged from 1055 carbon steel. Drop forging is, without doubt, the best method of manufacture for any impact weapon, particularly one with a cutting edge. During the forging process a metal ingot is heated almost white hot and then formed into shape in a series of progressive dies. The large steel dies are fixed to enormous compressed air hammers. Each die hammers the hot metal into a gradually more finished shape. The steel is kneaded and compressed into a completely homogeneous mass making the grain structure uniform and minimizing gas pockets or other imperfections that can ruin the construction of a hand forged hawk. This is why most good axes, hatchets and hammers are drop forged. These hawks are differentially heat treated. This means that the cutting edge and hammer face is fully hardened, while the balance is left relatively soft to absorb the shock of striking blows.

Very nice hawk
The Norse Hawk I received has a very nicely finished head, tightly fitted on the haft and the hickory handle seems to have been treated with linseed oil.I am very pleased with the product and the price. The shipping was fast, the hawk was securely packed.Knife Center provided a top notch customer service!

Cons: Head Material, Balance, Construction, Handle Material
The head did not fit the handle, not even close, and the head was not aligned with the handle making the axe glance of things I hit (seriously dangerous). I had to make a new handle to be able to do anything with it. I have thrown it at some trees, I have used it to clear brush and to cut some low hanging branches. The steel does not hold an edge well. Cool idea, terrible execution. I did not buy mine from KnifeCentre, fyi, but this is the first and last Cold Steel product I will buy period.

Great for throwing
Good tomahawk due to the $24 price tag. It is covered in a thick black paint, the blade needed sharpening, and the handle needed sanding. That aside there is a set screw in the back so the handle doesn't slip, long handle for customization, and the axe head design doesn't allow for top of the handle to be damaged when thrown. I am very happy with it even with the axe head being clearly stamped made in Taiwan and having a shitty sticker saying made in America. After getting one, I order 6 more through Knife Center with the sheaths and gave them to friends. Everybody is happy with them and I am happy that 6 tomahawks didn't get held up at customs coming to Canada. I recommend getting the sheaths with the tomahawk but some sheaths didn't fit some of the tomahawks properly but could fit others, and one sheath didn't fit any axe properly. The sheath I would give a 3/5 but you kind of need it.
