No better than the old version
I used to have a 3" wide Dovo strop exactly like this except for the leather finish. It curled from side to side dreadfully and became unusable. Now after using many expensive and exotic strops, plus a few reconditioned ancient ones, I have always held the Dovo/Jemico 2" Red Russian strop in high regard. I have got through quite a few of them over the years, so on hearing of a 3" russian leather strop I though I would try it out. At that time the product image here was of a wide red strop. Knifecenter did bother to call me and say it isn't red and I said to send it anyway. It does have the same velvety finish as a red russian, with almost no 'draw' (the resistance or drag you feel when you strop) to it. A little Dovo yellow paste of some neats foot oil is usually required here, and this time I went with the former. Still very little draw and awfully little effect on the razor. I have gone back to the 2" red russian for now. I may decide to refinish the surface of this 3" strop later, but it isn't much use as it is.Chris Moss
