DX5602: Replica 16th Century German "Raven Peak" Battle Axe, Brass
This reproduction battle axe is a specialized type typically used by the cavalry in southern Germany. It is a short weapon measuring only 29.5" and has a wooden handle and a head formed from a long curved beak and a specially lightened axe blade. The axe head features intricate engraving and a brass finish and is left intentionally unsharpened for safe display. The battle axes of the sixteenth century were militarized versions of the axes that were used by lumberjacks, just lightened and sharpened for added lethality. It was one of the most powerful and effective cutting weapons of that period and was usually used to lodge into the opponent's shield, which made it much heavier and left the opponent tired and exposed.
