A Retirement Plan
The way my 401K has been taking a hit in the stock market lately, I thought I better have a back-up plan. So, I invested in this here, Carvin’Jack; may diversify into a cane bottomed rocking chair. I’ll be rockin’ on the front porch, whittlin’ spoons and trinkets for the tourist trade in my golden years : ) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> One thing they don’t mention in the product description (stated in specs), is that the blades feature a lock-back mechanism. They won’t close on your finger. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I carved the wife a letter opener with a bald eagle head perched on top, for Valentines Day, out of one of those blocks of wood that come in a cigar box (Cedar, Cypress, who knows?). It’s a full tang, spear point blade, 35-40 HRC, with bald eagle handle. Boy, she’s a lucky woman. Some wives only get chocolates, roses, and diamond jewelry for V-Day. Maybe now, she’ll appreciate my knife collecting hobby (Ha, Ha! That’s a good one). It turned out well, blades were sharp, easy to use, grip is comfortable. I stropped periodically to freshen edge. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you have not used Flexcut Gold polishing compound, as yet, you are in for a treat. This stuff is, “Da BOMB!” One trick I learned, on Spyderco Forums, is to put Flexcut Gold on leather lace, or a leather thong to sharpen a Spyder edge (serrated edge, to those uninitiated in the Spyder Cult). I believe that technique would work well with the curved blades on the Carvin’ Jack. But, get yourself a leather paddle strop and some Flexcut Gold (both available at KnifeCenter.com), and use them to put a finishing edge on all of your knives/tools. You’ll wonder where it has been all your life. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I sure wish someone had gifted me a Carvin’ Jack when I was a kid. Just think of all the waterfowl decoys, balsa fishing lures, fish decoys, fish & wildlife figurines I would have carved by now. It may be a little pricey, but investing in a Carvin’ Jack for your kids, or grand-kids, could pay big dividends in their future. As always, thank you Knife Center for the speedy delivery, excellent customer service, and the great cutlery.
