KS1555G10BW: 1555G10BW Cryo G10, Blackwash
Kershaw Knives

The Kershaw Cryo, designed by Rick Hinderer, is one of Kershaw's best-selling knives. And now it's available with two of the most-asked-for modifications: a G10 front scale and blackwash finish.

This Cryo not only looks good, it also offers the extra grip some of you have been asking for. The G10 scale also lightens the overall weight of this very practical knife.

The Cryo was the result of collaboration between Rick Hinderer and the design and production engineers at Kershaw. It's designed to satisfy users' craving for a Hinderer knife, but at a price that meets the demands of their wallets. The original Cryo (model 1555TI) was selected as a BLADE Show "Best Buy" and as Men's Journal Approved Gear.

Like all Cryos, the G10-handled Cryo is equipped with SpeedSafe assisted opening for smooth and easy one-handed opening. Access it with the built-in flipper or thumb studs. The blade steel is heat treated to Kershaw's exacting standards. The handle has a G10 front scale with a stainless steel back. A sturdy frame lock secures the blade open during use and a Hinderer lockbar stabilizer ensures the lock doesn't over-extend.

The Cryo G10 is equipped with a 2-position deep-carry pocket clip for carry flexibility and discretion.
Features
  • Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • SpeedSafe - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumb studs or pull back on the flipper; built into many Kershaw best sellers.
  • Frame Lock - A portion of the handle (the knife frame) moves behind the blade to lock it into position during use. This is a safety feature of the knife.
  • Deep Carry, Reversible Pocket Clip - Pre-drilled holes in the handle enable the user to change either the tip position or the side on which the knife carries.

Frame Lock
Frame Lock
Developed by Chris Reeve, it functions like a liner lock but the lock is comprised of one of the handle scales. It's an extremely strong and easy to manipulate lock.
Pocket Clip
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
8CR13 Stainless Steel
8CR13 Stainless Steel
Considered a value steel, 8Cr13 steel provides adequate corrosion resistance but with slightly more carbon than AUS-8, it will sharpen up and hold an edge better.
G10 Handles
G10 Handles
Formed in a sheet under high pressure by combining fiberglass and an epoxy resin binder. These handles are lightweight and shaped to ensure a solid grip.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Lock Type, Handle Material, Ease of Opening, Pocket Clip, None
Cons: Lock Ease of Use
Need Meets Price
I needed an everyday carry knife, primarily for opening things and general duty at small cutting. I had lost an earlier, smaller knife, and at its price point this Kershaw seemed a reasonable replacement. I had wanted a better one, but price quickly became an issue. Among knives that I could afford, I had tried and trusted the Kershaw name, and this knife came with quick-opening, a longer blade than my last one, and a sharpness that brought it to a whole other level. Though I sometimes find it awkward to release its lock, which is very safe, it opens easily and cuts superbly. It is too small and down-market for a dedicated blade aficionado, but for my city boy needs this knife is outstanding.

Instant addiction
Solid knife in a compact package. Loads of fun to throw the blade open. Bought one for myself and followed that up a week later with one for my dad and brother. Goes in my pocket every morning.

A beautiful wonderful knife
I love this knife. It's just something special. It flips nicely and I'm digging the black wash. My only wish is it be American made with a American steel like their Sandvik or even a higher end model with a titanium frame and s90v or something exotic. If you make that you will be rich.
