KS1660OLBLK: 1660OLBLK Leek, Olive Drab
Kershaw Knives

There are lots of very good reasons the Leek is one of the most popular Kershaws. For one thing, the slim blade is remarkably versatile. This modified drop-point blade shape gives it good slicing capabilities, while the slim tip lets it excel at piercing and detail work. The blade steel is high-performance Sandvik 14C28N stainless that sharpens to a razor edge and holds the edge for a good long time. The 3-inch blade is perfect for most day-to-day tasks.

Leek lovers also love the fast and easy opening provided by SpeedSafe assisted opening. Whether you’re left-handed or right-handed, a simple pull back on the ambidextrous flipper or push outward on the thumb stud and the Leek’s blade is ready to go to work.

But the newest and most obvious thing about this Leek is the new olive drab handle color. The color is eye-catching and different, but also discrete. The olive drab color is fade-resistant, scratch-resistant, and permanently bonded to the anodized aluminum—so it looks good now and looks good later, too.

For safety, a locking liner keeps the blade locked open during use and a Tip-Lock slider locks it closed when folded. The pocket clip is reversible for tip-up or tip-down carry and the handle is drilled to accept a lanyard. This slim, easy-to-carry design, with plenty of cutting versatility, just might be the perfect EDC.
  • Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • SpeedSafe - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumb stud or pull back on the flipper; built into many Kershaw best sellers.
  • Liner Lock - Locks the blade open during use; one side of the knife’s steel "liner," the steel plate to which the handle scales are attached, moves into position behind the blade to securely lock it open.
  • Reversible - Pre-drilled holes in the handle enable the user to change either the tip position or the side on which the knife carries.
  • Made in the USA - When you see this on one of the knives, it means it was made in their Tualatin, Oregon manufacturing facility by skilled Kershaw knifemakers.

Take a Leek
Great Ken Onion design, for what it is. This knife is more of a gentleman’s tactical folder, r/t its light construction. One of my pet peeves with American designed folding knife blades is that they have become so tactically oriented, that the blades are becoming increasingly thicker, so as, to resemble splitting wedges more than slicing tools, and perform as such. The Leek’s blade definitely reverses that trend, with its thin delicate blade. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This modified Wharncliffe has little in common with the Wharncliffe blade of the sailor knife, or your grandpa’s whittlin’ knife. Perhaps, the knife community could adopt more precise nomenclature and call this blade style: “pterodactyl beak blade” (found in knives such as, CRKT’s Crawford/Kasper Dragon, available @ KnifeCenter.com). Then, everyone would know exactly what you were referring to (Yeah, I suppose that would suck. I’d have to look it up every time I wanted to spell it). One problem of the pterodactyl beak blade is the fine point. It is probable that it will not stand up to hard use. For that reason, I would call this knife a “One Time Knife,” or “Disposa-Tac Knife.” Even the liner lock is fairly thin steel, axis of light construction; not anything I would trust to extended hard duty. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Although it has its limitations, Leek definitely has a place in your tac/SD preparations. This is a great knife to wear in your gym shorts/sweat pants when you workout at the gym, jog/walk in your neighborhood. Anytime you want a light weight/low bulk tac folder that won’t drag you down, or show too, much. Fine knife for the office, weddings, or anywhere you wear dress slacks and don’t want the weight and bulk of your big tac folder. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Comfortable, although, slim grip. Light weight. Love the 14C28N stainless steel (the 440C of the new millennium). It is a well balanced stainless that takes and keeps an edge fairly well. Opens easily (flipper trigger could be bigger for me). Forget the safety (a mishap/disaster waiting to happen). Did not arrive shaving sharp. Would not even slice the KC receipt that was in the box. Won’t deduct a star, as everyone should know how to sharpen a knife. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I would sure like to see a Leek XL: a scaled up, longer, wider, deeper, thicker version. Get relief from pocket bloat. Take a Leek.
