Description
KS4036BLK: 4036BLK Pub Folding Knife, Black
Kershaw Knives

Designed by Belarussian custom knifemaker Dmitry Sinkevich, the Kershaw Pub looks like nothing you’ve ever seen.

Closed, you’d never know there was a handy blade inside—although you would definitely see the equally handy bottle opener. And if you were exceptionally sharp-eyed, you might notice the slotted screwdriver tip right next to the bottle opener.

To reveal the blade, just push down on what looks like the key ring attachment. You’ll see the blade move out of the compact handle. Keep pushing and the blade will swing all the way out, ready for use. The blade is a modified sheepsfoot with a straight edge and clipped rather than rounded tip.

The handle has an anodized aluminum front scale in basic black and a steel back. When open, the handle is large enough for a comfortable grip on this slip-joint-style knife. When closed, the Pub is less than 3 inches long, but with a one-inch key chain attachment, making it easy to slip onto even a crowded key ring. Strong detent keeps the Pub closed until you open it.

Cool, Strange Little Knife
This is a very unusual knife, but I can't keep my hands off of it. Once you start playing with it you have a hard time stopping. It's a nicely made, tough little knife with the added features of a bottle opener and flat blade screwdriver (which some sites also call a "pry bar", which would be stretching the truth....the "bar" is only about 3/8" long).I like this knife and see it being useful at the bar for cutting limes for drinks. The sharp, sheep foot blade would be great for that purpose while the bottle opener can open your beers. Maybe that's why they named it the "Pub".As to the "keychain attachment", I have to throw a flag on that description. Sure, you can put the knife on your keychain using the loop that is the back end of the knife blade. But when the knife is open that loop disappears into the handle, so you obviosuly have to take the knife off your keychain when you want to use it. Still. there's something cool about it....

Does the job...
Things I like: I like the form factor. I like the strong chiselly cut off type of blade. Much like a utility knife. I like the keychain feature when you open and close the blade you can hook it on a beltloop. Nice hollow ground blade very sharp out of the box. I like the size for a small utility blade.High level of craftsmanship and finish. Nice secondary utilitarian uses like the bottle opener and flat blade screwdriver. I like the grooves cut into the top of the blade. It provides a better grip during deployment and use. I like the spring action that helps deployment and keeps the blade closed. Not too difficult to open.Drawbacks or potential improvements:A bit difficult to deploy. Possibly a guard against unplanned opening. Takes quite a bit of practice to Open one handed. It can be done after playing with it for a while. Front or backwards. One hand-thumb down on the textured grooves while pressing down. Opening inside the palm. 2 Handed is no easier. right thumb in the half moon shape. Break it open like a stick. Maybe a thumbnail groove on the end exposed part of blade. Needs some scale texturing for a better grip. The area between the blade and the grip could be rounded out to accept your finger. It already has a deep vshape. Why not moon it out to fit a finger and provide a better grip.Overall I rate a thumbs up. For the price, a good value.
